My day was marred by an unfortunate incident involving the guard, my friends and I, as we were unjustly denied entry for a visit.

Arriving around 1:00 pm with eager anticipation to explore the architectural marvel, our enthusiasm was met with the discourteous and disrespectful demeanor of the guard at the entrance gate. He adamantly claimed the church was private, prohibiting visitors, asserting that as non-Christians, we were unwelcome. This encounter escalated with moral lectures and questioning of our faith.

In an attempt to resolve the situation, we contacted the administrator, who, in a courteous response to my friend, confirmed that visits were indeed permitted. Returning to convey this information to the guard proved futile, as he adamantly insisted on being the sole decision-maker for the site. A subsequent call to the administrator resulted in a request to engage the guard in a conversation on speakerphone, which he vehemently avoided. Upon his return, he demanded a payment of 20dh per person for entry, a proposition we unequivocally rejected, opting to donate to the church rather than acquiesce to dishonest demands.

Undeterred, we proceeded with a brief tour of the cemetery and garden, under the watchful eye of the persistent guard. The experience left us feeling deeply humiliated and nervously uncomfortable.

To the administrators of this esteemed site, it is evident that the current guard is ill-suited to protect and preserve the legacy of this sacred and enchanting locale. I implore you to thoroughly reassess the situation and take corrective measures to restore the rightful reputation this...

St. Andrew's Church and its adjacent cemetery together have been a haven of worship, prayers, peace and tranquility in Tangier for over 100 years.

The last time I attended a funeral service inside the church, I noticed some glaring large cracks in the walls up front, so I hope these are repaired before the damage worsens. And, the tall outside stone and stucco walls around the perimeter of the property and cemetery also have large cracks and urgently need repairs. I hope enough money can be raised to do this, or maybe a generous congregant will donate sufficient funds.

This beautiful Anglican church is the most historic and noteworthy Christian house of worship, prayer and meditation in Tangier.

St. Andrew’s Church has a loyal following of expatriate residents among its congregation, along with immigrants, tourists and visitors to the city of Tangier on the Strait of Gibraltar.

Inside St. Andrew’s Church walls is the old and somewhat crowded Anglican Cemetery with tranquil gardens, stone pathways and a few wooden and stone benches.
