Beware of going into the theater when ticket office is open and ticket sellers are taking calls even though the glass window for in person purchases is wide open. After 5 days in Amsterdam I decided on my last night to book a show. When the sign on the ticket window indicated that the box office was only open from 3-5 pm, I called the phone number posted on the ticket window (020 788 2000) at 4pm on Monday April 29th and went straight into voicemail which placed me on hold for 10 minutes. I decided that since I was in the adjoining building next door staying at the Movenpick Hotel in Amsterdam, to just walk over to the ticket office. Unicellular in the lobby I noticed the ticket window open and two telephone salespeople on their phones, one male and one female. When the male hung up on his call I asked from the open ticket window if there were any performances for sale for that Monday April 29th? The male salesperson came up to me and started shouting saying “can’t you see that we are busy working the phones” and when I answered “ yes and I was one of the callers put on hold for ten minutes and decided to walk over from my hotel to purchase a ticket in person rather than being kept holding”, the salesman told me to leave, saying that he was still busy after hanging up on his last call.” Why they bother having an open ticket window is beyond me if they only take phone orders. Go figure! In person customer service is apparently a nuisance for them. Upon my return to the hotel I mentioned to Abdul at the hotel concierge desk my experience and he said “yes, I had to help some other customers this morning purchase their...
Read moreDo not go without reservation!!!! I give 3 stars because I have not gone to a concert there, nor have we eaten..... but the attention puts the place a little dawn... Yesterday we went to a concert in Muziekgebouw, great! But in the end, we wanted to eat something and because Google Maps says that they open on Sundays at 18:00 we went but they told us that we should wait, so we did, and when we returned, the kind receptionists asked us if we had a reservation and since we didn't, they couldn't give us a place to eat, just a drink. The people who attended us before should have told us that we required a reservation, otherwise we would not have waited!!!! They should improve the...
Read moreThis is a great venue for concerts and related performance arts. The location is beautiful and the building itself is very pretty with it's huge glass wall, overlooking the IJ and Central Station. The only thing I don't understand is why the architect didn't design a beautiful entrance, which welcomes you in and makes you feel like an appreciated guest. Yes, there is the amazing bridge, leading you to the building from the street and convenient tram stop. But the bridge doesn't really take you anywhere. As soon as you enter the building, it feels like an abandoned cold office building entrance. It's a shame, because it can easily be fixed. Otherwise...
