De Blauwbrug verbindt sinds 1883 de Amstelstraat met het Waterlooplein, waarbij ze de rivier de Amstel overspant. Het wordt sinds de bouw gezien als één van de markanste bruggen van de stad.

De naam Blauwbrug is afkomstig van de bijnaam van de oude bruggen die hiervoor 1883 lagen , zij hadden blauwe leuningen. Tegenwoordig zijn alleen de lantaarns op de brug nog blauw van kleur.

Weetje: Op 30 april 1980 , de dag waarop Prinses Beatrix werd ingehuldigd als Koningin van Nederland , vonden hier rellen plaats tussen krakers en de Mobiele Eenheid. Op dit treffen baseerde schrijver A.F.Th ( Adri ) van der Heijden het verhaal voor zijn roman " De Slag om...
