If it was listed as a walking tour I would have rated it better. It’s sick as hell what the lady told us (a bit reluctantly, because it’s not a museum, you can’t go in, but she was kind enough to come out to the front door and take a few minutes to explain). But it is 100% not a museum. They classify it as an outdoor museum but it’s better classified as a collection of artworks along a free walking tour, available by QR code, because that’s what it is. The browser doesn’t work so you have to get the app to see where each mural is. We didn’t end up doing it. We weren’t ready for a 3km walk and felt a bit misled by the title. I understand the whole “graffiti is free” thing and also the “art is for everyone” and ALSO the “quick satisfaction” / “buy a €20 ticket, see all the art” thing is what graffiti ISN’T, but then why call it a “museum”? Well, to bring people to the area, which is otherwise a slum, she explained. I get it, I do. But if the information was easier to find, or if the app / browser worked better, it would have caused us to actually walk around the neighborhood, enjoy it, and maybe patronize some businesses. Instead we ate the lunch we packed ourselves to save money because we were expecting to pay for an entry ticket (we had actually routed ourselves to the wrong graffiti museum) and we went home without completing the walking tour either. I hope they can improve the information about it in the future or provide paper maps of the walking paths with QR codes to donate and raise some money for various community projects, because they seem to have a heart for that and really prioritize it. Which is very cool. But a museum...
Read moreIt was a rather anti-climatic experience. The "museum" is a messy little shack in which the hostess entertains people with a mix of Dutch and English with a Polish accent. The tours are not 'open-air" but rather " city walks".
I disliked her discouraging kids from school and promoting anarchy and marxism. Schools mold kids in to respectable, civilised human beings. Developing their brains to make them ready for the real world so they do not have to live on bread and cheese. For me it was boring and it dragged on a bit, she did not read the room really well. It reminds me of how the artist is this person who always struggles to get by. A nice image, art for art's sake. But to me it personally feels... rather pointless. I prefer to make the world a better place in a more effective manner.
Our tour guide was extremely nice and a great person. They also had a very nice dog Anna was nice, energetic and sometimes a bit rude. She kept switching between languages such that most of our kids had no clue what was going on. A solid 3/5 because she really tried and I did like her although I did not like her approach and thought she was unprofessional as an entertainer/hostess.One talks differently to adults than to kids. She was truly an artist. I liked the art but we did not see that much due to the weather being what it is. When in the Netherlands - expect rain. Would have given a 7/10 if possible. The shack was...
Read moreA Disappointing Experience at an Alternative Art Space
We visited this venue as a family — two adults and our 8-year-old child — on my wife’s birthday 24/04/25. We were looking forward to exploring street art, graffiti, and contemporary projects, as the space presents itself as a hub for alternative and urban art.
Unfortunately, our visit quickly turned into an extremely unpleasant and unexpected experience. As soon as the staff heard us speaking Russian, one of the women began speaking to us in a rude and openly hostile manner. We were told that we had come to the “wrong place” and that we “don’t belong here” simply because we are Russian. She raised her voice, used offensive language, and even swore at us.
While we fully understand the complexity of the current global situation, such behavior toward visitors is absolutely unacceptable. We came as a regular family, genuinely interested in art, and instead were met with direct discrimination and aggression.
This kind of conduct from staff goes entirely against the very idea of an open and inclusive cultural space, and seriously undermines trust in such initiatives. We sincerely hope that the management takes this incident seriously and ensures that this does not happen to anyone else...
