I never write negative reviews but I could not rest at the thought of another person enduring the experience we had.
Apart from a few front desk staff the rest of the staff are rude unwelcoming and treat you like you are a huge problem just for existing. One receptionist asked my partner at 1am if he would go to the petrol station to get him cigarettes… after he respectfully declined the member of staff had an attitude for the rest of the week with us.
The general housekeeping staff who also work at the breakfast buffet spend more time gossiping and smoking outside the food place next door then dealing with the actual hotel.
The room from a distance looks great but the more you look the more problems you get. Between dust, mould, overall uncleanliness and there is no sense of safety you also have the option of 5 tv channels at best for entertainment and the staff are very much aware but do not want to deal with these problems.
The first room I got smelt awful had a small window which was broken and you could not swing a cat in it - for over €100 a night this is below acceptable. Luckily one of the nicer front desk staff immediately changed room however this looked better but still came with problems! From stained duvets and pillows, mould growing on ceilings and walls I also had a huge crack in my window too.
For convenience we added breakfast - huge mistake! You have a total of 6 hot options and depending on the day maybe 2-3 bakery options which are uncovered and the flies get to enjoy before you do. For cold it’s 4 cereals, yogurt, a few fruits and two different sliced cheeses - again below the standard set on their website which specifies the breakfast options.
The staff working at the breakfast, point to their clipboard for you to provide your room number and then sit at the other end of the basement watching you like hawks - they do not regularly top up the food and in the 4 nights we stayed they topped up the food once on one day even though there was still over an hour left of breakfast.
They spend more time taking care of themselves and their family members that they bring to work with them then the customers who pay to be there. The coffee machine stopped working and they only fixed it because one of the workers daughters wanted a hot chocolate and also used no gloves and uncleaned hands to touch inside to fix it. It then broke again after and was problematic the following day too. All in all the only good thing about breakfast was the juice!
Housekeeping walk into your room even when do not disturb is on do not apologise and don’t really clean up either. They make the bed - do not change the linen, add a new toilet roll and give you clean towels. Then they are on to the next one with no thought to hoover or physically clean anything!
When they are cleaning the rooms expect to cross the hazards if you go out as the halls are blocked with carts, rubbish bags and random bags of old linen and the floor is laced with wires.
There is also no cleaning staff after this point as several nights there were spilled drinks in the reception areas into the lift and on the next floor which dried got sticky and wasn’t cleaned to the next morning round of cleaners.
This hotel boasts excellent transport links but if you’re going into town it is a game of luck! The trams are irregular or just don’t turn up and for a supposedly 20 minutes journey in all 4 days the journeys were 40mins+.
The area itself was okay as it is directly opposite a shopping centre and during the day on some days of the week there is a bustling market however by night this becomes ratville and yes they do chase you right back!
I have been to another XO hotel (park west) which was absolutely immaculate compared to this experience.
I am not seeking anything from the hotel as you will see by their responses to other reviews below it is a generic standard response advising to let them know when you are there - this is not true as when you let them know they either don’t deal with it or put you in another room which is not...
Read moreThe rooms on the surface look to be modern and clean, only when you inspect slightly closer you start seeing all the cracks and interacting with the staff I felt like I was inconveniencing them. I went with three 5 different friends, across 4 different rooms so I saw many differences. (wasn't a "lads holiday")
Nice waterfall showers (drainage issue though) and modern tiling/decor and features such as touch screen DND/Service button etc. Nespresso in the room was a selling point, but only 2/4 worked. Okay, location, transport and shops close by, but you really need to travel into the city to experience Amsterdam.
The decor looked great, and available amenities were what you would expect such safe, wardrobe, shampoo soap etc. The vending machines were a lifesaver on the way back from the city late at night.
I would like to end that the check-in and check-out process in this hotel was very modern and zero need to interact with the front desk. The beginning and end experience was great, shame about the middle.
Firstly the staff were unhelpful when a double room was given for my friend when they asked for a twin. When asking to swap, it was not possible as no availability. Later that day it showed availability on booking and they rang to see if they could swap, not slept and just had a bag in there, again not possible as they said: "they have no twins left". He booked it and behold it was a twin, speaking to the front desk they just weren't able to do anything. Swindled by another €90.
Across 4 hotel rooms, spaced across the hotel there were issues such as:
2 of the coffee machines were not working. 2 of the Showers flooded they couldn't drain fast enough (nice waterfall showers though) 2 of the beds were ROCK HARD and I'm a big person and couldn't feel any give in the mattress. 3 of the rooms air conditioning didn't really work on the top floor, but the room on the bottom floor was freexing The double beds had two single duvets on them. 1 room in which a friend recorded a video had a constant loud knocking/ticking sound behind the walls. The front desk was shown the video, apologised and couldn't swap room or fix it.
As you can tell we did reach out to the front desk on a few items, but after the issues racked up across the group we just thought what was the point on keep mentioning issues, so use this review. The whole experience from room to room was so inconsistent. Even though it isn't positioned close to anything there are good network links just outside the hotel with a short journey, but for 10-20 EUROS extra I would stay closer to the city and save on travel costs and perhaps get a...
Read moreWhen I first read the low star reviews on this hotel, the concerns were not ones I thought justified it so we went ahead and took a chance. Unfortunately, I wish we would have stayed elsewhere. ||Pros:|- Modern/nicely decorated |- Right by one of the bus/tram stops and multiple grocery stores|- While mattress was firm, it was still comfortable as well as the pillow|- Lots of selection for breakfast||Cons:|- Tiny. So tiny! Barely any room to walk between the wall attached desk and the bed. Bumped into things in the bathroom. Hallways are tiny too. Not fun dragging luggage down.|- Every single day until approx. 1am, we could hear what only sounded like the screeching/dragging from moving furniture above us. Along with the odd bang and clunk. Not only was it incredibly annoying, we struggled to sleep. After the third night, we notified the front desk. He basically shrugged and said “there are apartments above you”. No resolution offered or attempted.|- We had requested an early check in of two hours early with the reservation. When we arrived we were advised it was not possible. Which is fine, sometimes you just can’t. However, we then sat and watched the clerk check in two different couples with the same room type early…. ??? (And yes, we booked directly through the hotel.)|- They have a locked room with luggage storage. Great! However, they don’t bother checking your tag or amount of tags you were given. They just unlock it and let you walk in to grab whatever bag.|- No where to put anything in the room. There was one chair I kept my suitcase on for the week, husband kept his on the floor. Was frequently finding I had nowhere to set anything, including in the bathroom. Why is there no hook on one of the bathroom walls? I ended up booking my toiletry bag onto a hanger and overtop of the shower wall. |- Shower head was dirty (maybe something to do with the water?)|- Bathroom sink was ridiculous. Extremely shallow, fills up quite quickly.|- One of plastic cups in the bathroom was slathered in some sort of lavender lotion? Glad I didn’t drink out of it. |- No facial tissues in the bathroom?|- Heat did not work till fourth night. Kept defaulting back to 19 degrees for some reason.|- Cost for a taxi from the airport on their website says approximately €40. Ours was over €70.||Would not recommended. Wish we stayed somewhere else, especially...
