This venue has a lot of potential, but there are some areas that could be improved. The relevance of each point will depend on the type of event you’re attending and your personal preferences. I’m writing this based on my experience at an event in winter.
Rooms: The venue is a sprawling complex with interconnected rooms, which is great for wandering and catching different vibes. It’s also great to enter places from different angles. However, there are some chill areas in the cafeteria that are a bit too functional. There are a few couches, but there could be more to make the space feel more cozy.
Toilets: This is a big plus! There are so many toilets, which is a relief after waiting so long for a bathroom option in any other location. Thank you, school building architect. Toilet paper as well, even at the later hours of the event.
Sound System: The sound system is good, but it lacks a bit of refinement. One speaker was clipping occasionally, but it seemed like the sound engineers were aware of the issue and were trying to fix it. They also hang heavy wall curtains to help with sound reflections, which can definitely be felt and make the sound system work better. Likely also needed given the loads of glass windows in this place.
Bouncer: The bouncers were minimal in their presence, which was a nice touch. The crew was also great, scene sourced. Top.
Lockers/Coat Check: There weren’t enough lockers, and the coat check system was chaotic. There was no system in place to make it easy for the next crew to retrieve our items.
Ventilation: This is the biggest issue with the venue. The ceiling is rather low, which means that hot and sweaty air can’t escape. It feels like walking into a steam sauna, which is not ideal. There’s no forced ventilation, which is why the sweat drips from the ceiling and pipes at the condensation station. I understand that an ideal solution needs to take the activity level on the floor into account to not be uninvitingly cold at the beginning.
For me, the ventilation issue was the most significant drawback, making it a complete no-go (generous -1 ⭐️). The absence of more couches (-0.5 ⭐️) and the coat check chaos (-0.25 ⭐️) are further points for improvement. Despite Tillatec’s many positive aspects, I regret not being able to give them more stars. I hope they can address the ventilation issue and smooth the other easy fixes out, to bring this venue to easy ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️...
Read moreI showed up spontaneously with a small pocket knife, not trying to sneak it in, just forgot I had it. I told the bouncers it was VERY important to me and I wouldn’t enter unless I could get it back. They ASSURED me I would. That was the only reason I went in and I shouldn’t have. By the end of the night, it was gone. No explanation, no responsibility. I could imagine one of them took it…That knife wasn’t just an item, it was something from someone I lost. Additionally the bouncers were condescending, dismissive, and rude. Completely unprofessional. Train your staff better: If you can’t follow through on your word, don’t give false reassurance. Also these men did not make my friend or me feel comfortable at all: misplaced comments, lack of boundaries and lack of respect. As a bouncer you shouldn’t be there to chit chat to women and make comments like “you’re his type…” (referring to a colleague). After this I cannot imagine ANY support or help from these bouncers in a truly difficult or bad situation. I wouldn’t feel safe. Never...
Read moreI went to the bar/restaurant last week and had a really great time- drinks and food were really good and I was going to review with 5 stars. Can really recommend that.
But then tonight we came back to try the club, and I must say it’s one of the most ridiculous experiences I’ve had in Amsterdam. They didn’t let me and my 3 friends in because apparently we had bought our tickets individually, not as a group…what’s the logic in that? We were really looking forward to a fun night out, all coming from an LGTBQI sports club, heard this new place was queer with a nice music line up, and left feeling very disappointed. If they want to try and be ‘exclusive’ fine, but for sure I don’t want to go to a place where they have that attitude. If you’re really set on trying this place, your best option is to wear black, pretend you don’t know your friends, and go in 1 or max 2 at a time.
So, I...
