First and last visit to this place. When we arrived at the hotel to make our way to the restaurant, we met a lady from the restaurant service team who directed us to the upper floor as we came to try out the terrace. A young gentleman welcomed us friendly and informed us that we can sit anywhere we want, which we did. More guests arrived and got service, whilst we were still waiting to place our order. Then when we made our way to the bar to ask the gentlemen behind the bar if we can order drinks, we have been told that we cannot be served or order drinks because the kitchen was about to open soon. He tried to explain why but in the middle of the conversation one of the female servers with a white shirt (English speaking, brunette) interrupted rudely and wanted to take over de conversation. The bartender looked very uncomfortable with the situation when she interrupted as he was handling and explaining well. We explained once again that we were waiting for a while to order drinks and guests who arrived later received drinks whilst nobody took our order, and that we have now been told that we cannot order anything. She had zero understanding for the situation, even when we told her that we just wanted to only order a simple drink (glas of wine and beer) and that we came all the way there to try out this terras. She once again blamed her colleague “Michiel” who gave her the order to no longer serve. (in our opinion there was no point to mention someone’s name). In the end she said: FINE WHAT DO YOU WANT? in a very rude and unacceptable way, all guests were looking. This was it for us, and we decided to leave. Unfortunately for us a first and last visit. Impression and hospitality is important and the people working in your outlet can ruin the guest experience. Btw, we were not the only ones with this impression and experience, whilst we were waiting for our order to be taken, we could overhear and observe her in more of these kind of rude guest...
Read moreAfter having travelled most of the day and arriving at the hotel late, we were pretty hungry. I was fairly relaxed as I'd looked at the hotel's restaurant online which described itself as "vegan friendly" so I was confident we'd find something.
Initial impressions were positive as we entered the floor and we were greeted by professional staff who were fluent in English. The restaurant offers an "upmarket" feel, with cosy private booths, soft lighting and amazing views of the city.
Sadly, it all went awry when I asked about the vegan options. Thankfully the "chef" was clued up enough to be aware that the one veggie burger they offered contained milk and we were advised that the vegetarian tagliatelle would be "dry" without the cream sauce. (A reasonable fix would be to splash some olive oil in there as a tasty substitute but this wasn't offered.) Plain fries were not offered despite "loaded fries" being on the menu.
The only item on the menu which could be made vegan was the soup without yoghurt - which we ordered with a beer. When it came - it was literally a small bowl of soup and that was it! It didn't even come with a bread roll. The soup was tasty. The beer cost 14 euros and the total bill came to an eye-watering 50 euros! We left still hungry.
The uncomfortable part of the experience was how frosty the atmosphere got. The server appeared annoyed with us and left us shortly after never to return. We may have ordered another couple of drinks but as we were pretty much ignored we were unable to do so. Also when your staff make jokes about customers please bear in mind that "vegan" in Dutch is the same as English so that's not a great look when jokes were cracked in the background throughout our presence there.
This restaurant either has to up its game and reflect what the website actually claims (and play catch-up to the rest of Amsterdam which is very vegan friendly), or change the website to show how limited the menu actually...
Read moreI very, very rarely give such a low rating to anywhere but this place really left a bad taste in my mouth, both figuratively and literally. I was excited to eat here while my wife and I were visiting the area. They sell this place as upscale dining with a view. The prices were really high but that would be fine if the food was any good. It wasn't. The staff was slow and didn't seem to care. There were actually more staff than customers when we arrived yet it still took a while to even be acknowledged. I ordered a drink and one of the two burger choices on the menu. They somehow managed to get both the drink and the burger wrong by bringing me something completely different than I ordered. They did bring a burger but it was the other one that I didn't choose. I made a comment to the waiter, trying to explain that I didn't order what they brought and he just looked at me confused and said "you asked for burger." I decided to let it go since in all honesty, both burgers looked good on the menu... but then I took a bite... truthfully, it was the worst burger I've ever had anywhere. The bun was hard as a rock and the whole thing was so very dry. It was like they served me a burger that had sat out in the sun for the better part of a day. They also got my wife's order wrong as she ordered a plate of mixed vegetables with her meal and what was brought out was a plain green salad. It didnt even contain any of the vegetables listed in the menu description. There was never any explanation and our comments were just met with confused looks and "that's what you ordered". Definitely one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We...
