Archeological Museum Haarlem — Attraction in Haarlem

Great, by the way, discovery while in the Grote Markt. It's one of those well-displayed and interesting places that you don't expect much from, then discover it was well worth it. Be mindful, it's Dutch history, specifically Haarlem, and as such, everything is in Dutch. They do have volunteers who are available to help put things in perspective with English, and they do have printouts that can tell you what you're seeing (make sure to return them). I cannot speak highly enough of this great little museum. It’s the people that make it, one staff member in particular who interacted so genuinely and kindly with my 5 year old son. He was absolutely delighted with the chance to be a real archaeologist, even getting a certificate to prove it. He loved talking about all the things he’d found and her questioning just made his day. Ik was hier op een vrijdagmiddag buiten de vakanties om. Zo'n 10-15 jaar geleden ook geweest, maar kon er niet heel veel meer van herinneren. Nadat we het trapje naar beneden gingen, als het ware onder de grote Markt. Kwamen we in een ruimte met 2 erg vriendelijke en enthousiaste vrijwilligers. Het was redelijk rustig dus we konden onze tijd nemen om alles goed te bekijken. De voorwerpen waren goed zichtbaar, maar de beschrijvingen leken soms ook wat "archeologisch". Het skelet (Cornelis) was zeer fascinerend om te zien. Na een half uurtje zijn we weer naar boven gegaan.

Kortom, leuk om te zien ook voor Haarlemmers. Ik denk dat je aan 45 minuten genoeg hebt. Voor mindervaliden is het steile trapje naar beneden wel wat link. Maar eenmaal beneden wel...
