Rivièrahal Blijdorp Rotterdam Zoo — Attraction in Rotterdam

When we visited this zoo a year and a half ago, I was ready to call it the best zoo I had ever been to and recommended it to everyone. We went there yesterday, and I was disappointed. The animals don't look particularly healthy. I'm not an expert, but the ostrich and pelicans upset me. Some animals are missing, some enclosures are empty, and the park overall looks neglected. This review is just about the food. We were there on a busy day in April. Several of the restaurants and snack pavilions were inexplicably closed. The one restaurant we did eat at (Lepelaar) was awful by anyone's standards, i.e. overpriced FEBO-style snack food and a stressed out sandwich bar. They really need to get a restaurant makeover. Parking is a bit expensive, but the zoo is spacious and nice. However, when we went, there were several repairs going on, so we didn't see much. If you go in the morning when the animals are active, you can even see polar bears...
