I booked a surf course in May for 3 days from Saturday to Monday. In advance, they informed us that the surf course might be canceled due to bad weather. If you are traveling from far away, you should definitely keep this in mind.
On Saturday, the surf course was good and the group was manageable, so the instructor had enough time for everyone. Unfortunately, the wetsuits smelled extremely sweaty.
In the afternoon, I received the message that the course on Sunday was canceled. Overall, I spoke with 3 different people on the phone. One told me that the course was canceled due to bad weather (no waves). In the next sentence, however, he told me that the course was canceled because Sunday is the most booked day and only birthday parties and private lessons take place. I had booked the course a long time ago, and this statement really made me very angry. You could still book regular courses on the homepage. After talking to two more people about whether my course would at least take place on Monday, I only received confirmation the next day. Otherwise, I would have gone home. After much discussion with managers and employees, they then added three more participants to the 11 a.m. class so that the course could take place on Monday.
The surf lesson on Monday was great and the surf instructor from Portugal was very competent and took a lot of time. I am really glad I took this course. But the organization and communication from the management were really terrible.
A little tip from me: book the courses spontaneously on-site if you have a...
Read moreUnfortunately we had a rather unpleasant experience. That is understandable that waves are not always favourable for good surfing, but when the coach is very passive, uninvolved and prefers to have a small talk for most of the time instead of helping the learners - that kills the vibe completely. We took a beginners class. We had Bas as a coach. He made a good introduction, warm-up and were quite active and helpful to catch Wales at the beginning. But then he seemed to get more fascinated by the small talk with a couple of learners from the group and that divided our group in half. Half of the learners stayed passive simply talking on water, while the rest of the group still tried their best to catch waves and stay busy. We tried to ask for advice a couple of times but the coach stayed with the passive part of the group. One by one I saw students gradually losing interest and leaving water before clock. We were on our own and we could have just rented out gear and do what we did for much less money. I understand that some people lose interest in the process, but when the coach gives up in the middle of the class along with them - it’s a big disappointment for those who wanted to learn something. I give two stars because the staff was welcoming and the...
Read moreGreat spot. Hart maximize on being in the most accessible spot in the Hague (and probably the whole of the Netherlands) for surf! Hassle free surf hire, lessons, stuff for the kids, chill out areas for a quick break, lockers, warm showers, bar, restaurant, shop, and a very short hop into the surf (when there is surf). Great team too, who are always quick to help and advise in a very non salesy way. The facilities exceeded my expectation which is a far cry from the scarce facilities of UK surf spots. Every time I've been, I have been well served and have met surfers from all over Europe. New Years day 2017 surf met with a needed wetsuit hood and the right size board (trust the locals, they know what they're talking about). Hart make this an...
