This is a place to keep coming back to at least 10 times a year. As it changes faster then the seasons do. This is no longer the US embassy! However it is a very interesting museum of art and literature, with extremely enthusiastic staff. We arrived thinking it was just some small exhibition and were greeted by a receptions, telling us all about the building, its architect and history. We then went to the library, where we were given a nice cop of complimentary coffee from an artist employed at the museum. She gave us a tour of the entire place, going into great detail about all sorts of interesting thing we would have otherwise missed entirely. Museum West Den Haag is een bijzonder gebouw ontworpen door een getalenteerde architect die weigerde Bauhaus-epigoon te worden. Het lege interieur blijkt uitstekend geschikt voor de presentatie van hedendaagse kunst. Dat komt goed tot zijn recht bij de exposities Pickle bar en Alles=Goed van de Belgische Anne-Mie van Kerckhoven, die beide getuigen van een rijke veelvormigheid en betekenisvolle inhoud. De groep Pickle bar bedient zich van een grote diversiteit in media om hun boodschap uit te dragen. Daarbij vormt een zwembadje met daarin een liefelijk klaterend fonteintje een lichte toetst. Ook de vele groene flesjes met augurkensap werken in dat opzicht ontspannend. Een keurig boekje met uitgebreide toelichting in twee talen begeleidt de presentatie. Het werk van Anne-Mie van K. is naast pluriform vooral diepgravend. Het dicht bedrukte A4’tje met nadere uitleg in cryptisch filosofisch getint kunstenaarsjargon biedt daarbij nauwelijks uitkomst.
