Caldera Winery ,restaurant & tasting rooms,& luxury Lodges . Another great reason to visit our favourite Akaroa a real gem in the South Island of New Zealand. We literally discovered Caldera on a glorious summers day in January 2025 .This original simple winery was run down and in need of restoration, but it is set in a stunning location and thanks to the vision of the new owners putting in massive investment to not only ( clean up the Vines) but to build a stylish restaurant with glorious views looking down over the bay and the township of Akaroa . This is a special place with huge potential to attract the most discerning clientele for wine tastings and gourmet food but also well worth just dropping in as we did to enjoy a glass of or three of Calderas own superb wines while sitting on the terrace also drinking in the spectacular views. Caldera even offers a free taxi service from the town which is a smart move to attract the Cruise clients but also to enable locals to leave their cars at home . We met Tony the owner who’s pride and commitment to the project shone through during our conversation telling us that his investment & commitment to creating a World Class venue will continue later this year with the building of several luxury lodges set amongst the vines . You will gather we...

The view is spectacular, high on the hillside overlooking Akaroa harbour. The interior decor is chic, modern, classic with a subtle French influence. The food is outstanding, flavours are subtle when they need to be and bold when they need to be. We had the slow cooked lamb shoulder sharing platter - pull off the bone lamb, lots of vegetables and the gravy/jus deep umami flavours. The wine list is impressive with French and Reserve selections. The pick-up and drop-off within the village is a wonderful service. What carries this amazing food experience is the staff - attentive, friendly and eager to make your time with them memorable. We loo forward to returning to explore more...

What a spectacular way to spend an afternoon in AKAROA - at a restaurant with amazing views. Outstanding in every respect - atmosphere, service, food and wine. From pickup in AKAROA township, short scenic drive to Caldera Estate, greeting from Maître D with a glass of Prosecco right through to the selection from the extensive and tantalising menu, service from our waiter, delicious food which tasted as good as it looked, beautiful wine and ending with a tour of the new building by the owner, the experience was world class. I wish them every success in this exciting new offering in our delightful little town. Not to be missed. Have booked to bring the family in...
