A visit to Akaroa is obviously incomplete without visitung this lighthouse. Light first exhibited in 1880. The light is 270 ft above sea level and the tower is 28 ft in height. The white light flashes once every 10 seconds and can be seen for 23 miles in clear weather . The power source is from mains electricity with one diesel generator on standby for emergency power. I was told that the main component was made in Edinburgh and some other parts were made in France. It costs $5 and adult to get on the tower, but kids can enter free with and adult.

A delightful historic lighthouse that was saved by the local community from destruction and relocated to this picturesque location. We were lucky enough to have come past during it's brief opening time, but are very grateful we were able to experience this. A small donation is requested on entry and very friendly and knowledgeable caretakers will give you a guided tour. A wonderful view awaits those that venture out onto the upper balcony.

Very easy to find. One of the tourist attractions in Akaroa. There is some parking before the lighthouse and you can just walk about 5mins to the lighthouse. There is a small museum inside and just buy the ticket and you are ready to go up of the lighthouse Beside you can walk along the water to enjoy the scenery

The lighthouse was closed when we went there 3 weeks ago. It was closed for construction or something.. there were orange cones all around it and the area was fenced as well. The view from that area was good. Managed to take some photos of the lighthouse from outside even though it was closed.

The lighthouse was moved to the current location in favour of a more modern facility at the appropriate lighthouse location. The lighthouse itself is not spectacular but history buffs may find the story behind it interesting. Admission is required to go to the top.

It's a nice little light house. We were keen to go up but were out of time. We were there 10 minutes earlier but were told to come back the next day. This is just a short walk from the main area, nothing spectacular but worth a visit.
