Redwoods are something special, you just know when you are around them. Giant well kept in a beautiful reserve area. I went both in the daytime and nightmare specifically to see them, but there is lovely places to walk all around this area, with a picnic, with a dog or just some time alone. The redwoods themselves arnt as big/wide as the ones in california, but that doesn't mean they arnt spectacular to look at. Many have survived wars and carry so much history. I would reccomend visiting both day and nighttime, specifically to do the nighttime walk, it adds a sense of mystery and quiet to the surroundings. Make sure you go as late as possible- if you do go to avoid small children and noise. We left when the last groups were coming in and it was deffintely the best time to visit. There are bridges with platforms with a limit to 8 per bridge and 20 to platforms which is great because it means on some platforms it doesn't get overcrowded, as long as you are visiting with people who adhere to the rules. The height isn't much of a problem for those who are scared of heights for the lower course, but there is a section that goes a little higher which you do not have to go down, there is a alterative route also. Make sure you look up at the sky, as the stars are nice if you stay away from the road. Worth a visit if you are passing or in the area, they are wonderful trees.

This was easy to get to by car as it's close to the town on the edge of the Redwood Forest. There was a lot of parking available. We purchased our tickets at the information building which was clean and tidy. The bathrooms were also clean and tidy The man at the start of the tour gave us some basic info on not jumping and no more than 8 at a time on each bridge. The construction appeared top notch and you never felt nervous about the strength of the bridges. There was plenty of stops where you could take a break, take in the view, sanitise your hands and read the info boards on the forest and trees. There were David Trubridge designed lights hanging from the forest which light up at night so we will go back again tonight as this would be beautiful. Our tickets are for the full day so you can go back again. There was a cafe in the info centre which had some food, drinks and coffee, plus plenty of souvenirs in the info centre. The whole setup has been really well put together and adults and kids all enjoyed it. They even had purpose built buggies for taking babies in a capsule so the whole family can go along.

This is a beautiful place for a hike (short or long). The night walk on the suspension bridges in the trees is amazing! The lights they place throughout are so pretty. And there are also areas that are dark enough for some star gazing as well. Hiking the trails during the day was also really relaxing. Disclaimer: My night shot pics are much brighter than what your eyes would see. It's actually a much more immersive experience for the night walk because the surrounding woods are much darker. There were people who brought extremely young children on the night walk, but I'm not sure that was a great idea as there were several small kids who were crying/screaming because they were either scared of the dark or of heights. If your kids are old enough or have no fears of the above, this will be a really fun experience for them. The older children we encountered all seemed to be ecstatic walking the suspension bridges. If you plan on doing both the day and night walk, I'd recommend buying the general admission pass.

Known to locals simply as ‘The Redwoods’, the 55,000ha Whakarewarewa Forest offers splendid walks. Thanks to the owners and managers of the privately owned forest, access to the trails is always free. Please help us look after this incredible taonga (treasure). The redwood grove in Rotorua was planted back in 1901 with the aim of using the timber for building purposes. These trees have grown faster than in their native homeland due to the richer, well-drained soil and higher rainfall in the area, reaching over 70 metres (230 ft) height only 100 years later.[The tallest redwood in the forest stands at 75 metres. Over 5600 hectares of forest awaits you to enjoy and explore at your leisure. If you love the outdoors and want to experience nature at its best this area is definitely for you! The trails weave through native ferns beneath soaring forest canopies of Redwood, Radiata, Douglas Fir, Eucalyptus and Larch trees.

One of the most popular night activities in the Redwoods is the Redwoods Treewalk Nightlights. This experience involves walking along a series of suspension bridges and platforms high up among the trees, beautifully illuminated by lanterns designed by renowned artist David Trubridge. The cost for the Treewalk, whether during the day or at night, is around 40 dollars. If you want to experience both the daytime and nighttime Treewalk, the combined cost will be higher as each session is ticketed separately. Another enjoyable nighttime activity is exploring the forest on foot along its well-marked trails. The forest is well-lit in some areas, and walking through it at night offers a completely different perspective compared to the daytime. The combination of towering trees, cool night air, and the subtle sounds of the forest creates a peaceful and almost mystical atmosphere.

A cool park to walk through, and surely a unique place with and interesting history. I went for both tree walk and Redwoods Altitude. The tree walk is more suitable for children or so, it's a very nice walk in the trees, but you won't much experience something that you can't see from the ground. If I ever come back, I would like to experience the night tree walk, even though I heard they are very busy. The decoration hanging from the trees must be beautiful in the night. The Altitude experience was a bit more interesting for me, as I'm not usually walking in such heights. Just a heads-up, if you plan to park directly at the place or at connecting streets, when I was visiting the place, I saw some teenagers going from one car to another, trying to open car doors. Before I managed to record them or report them to any staff member, they had vanished. Be careful.
