The SPCA, and a variety of animal rights organisations, leading animal experts, including veterinarians, pleaded with you not to allow the 2014 rodeo to go ahead. You ignored all of those warnings, and went ahead regardless. This resulted in a bull dying, due to injuries sustained to it during one of the events that night. The event promoter hailed it as a success, clearly he couldn't care less about this. The VBase General Manager at the time, Darren Burden, is to date still in that position. His response and attitude to the events that occurred under his watch have been dismissive and defensive in tone. It is sad to see such a miserable failure, completely ignoring the advice of a wide range of animal welfare experts, hand waving away the fact that one of those groups was the highly respected RSPCA. One must wonder if Burden ought to be in a rates pay-rolled employment position at all. I certainly don't want to pay for him with my rates. I don't suppose there's an opt-out scheme for that?! Seriously though, when will those responsible for management level oversight begin to take responsibility for, what are clearly, their own mistakes? When will the response to every mistake, ever made by council management, not be, rather than admittance of error, just an illogically constructed rationalization as to how it wasn't really their fault, or it couldn't really have been avoided? There's nothing accidental about animal experts specifically telling you several times that rodeo harms animals, you arrogantly assuming that you must somehow know more than people that are experts in their field, and the consequences which in this case was animal cruelty, suffering, and the death of one of the animals. That's...

Read moreWent to Queens of the stoneage last night. I would give 5 stars purely because the wonderful usher Kay (shorter blonde woman upstairs by door 3?) she was amazing! I wrecked my knees after we got tickets/ right before the concert and after trying to sit in seats up in section R/ E but it was just too painful. Kay was so wonderful at getting us down on the landing so I could be semi comfortable and actually enjoy the concert! Other than that if you have any mobility issues I wouldn't recommend trying to get "cheap seats" they're tiny, uncomfortable. You don't have enough space to even attempt sitting in a way you can stretch your legs out as the seats in front slide back when someone sits down (as my knees found out by being slammed into as someone sat down). They also didn't have screens up so poor eyesight or any visual difficulties forget seeing anything other than lights and moving shapes. They do offer a lot of mobility parking but people like to park there without mobility stickers for pick up 🙃. Also the 2 lovely guys on the elevator were so good! Geoffrey and a younger guy made great security on the elevator haha. The security staff were also amazing and welcoming, when it came to bag checks they were respectful and patient and couldn't fault them! The event workers truly made all the difference for how...
