Today me and wife had a very bad experience with the customer service at the Milford City Fitness at around 12 noon.Today was our first visit. We took our daughter to the gym and had her seated at the lobby and we were informed by the lady at the counter saying that children cant be here unattended. We understood that there should be policies and i apologised to her and tried coming back outside from the automated gate, but she was showing us a negative vibe from the begining. We are from Sri Lanka and this is not the first time we came to a city fitness, we were members at Papatoetoe and at Ormiston for a very long time. When she mentioned that children cant left unattended i was already inside through the automated gates and i was trying to come out and when we asked that i cant come out she just kept saying you cant leave your child here. And i said i know thats why iam trying to come out. And we know that she can open the gates from the counter but she did not bother to do so. She was not showing the same attitude for the others but for us which we assumed as a an enthnic matter. When i was looking at her for some assistance she just kept busy and looking at my wife without getting noticed. I should say the day i registered a guy named Noah assisted me through out the process and was very friendly, that was the reason to give a one star. Today since it is i cannot contact the customer service to make an official complaint since there is cctv and can go through the incident. I did not want to confront her at the location because my intention was not to make a scene but to have a peaceful workout. The attitude she showed today reflected a very bad image towards the customer service of the gym since we pay a membership fee and entrust in return for a...
Read moreThe gym facilities and equipment are fairly standard for a CityFitness, and the space is reasonable. However, I had a negative interaction with the gym manager, which impacted my experience.
During my session, I was informed by the manager that I could not keep my backpack (containing valuables and exercise equipment) tucked out of the way near a machine. I understand the need for safety rules, but the approach felt overly strict. Instead of providing a warning for future visits or offering alternatives like a temporary lock, I received a 'comply or leave' treatment.
The interaction was handled in a manner that felt authoritarian and unwelcoming. A kinder, more solution-oriented approach would have made a significant difference. For example, offering suggestions on how to comply while addressing my concerns would have helped.
For such a strict gym, I believe the rules should be posted more clearly to avoid confusion. Additionally, friendlier interactions—especially for new members—would improve the experience and encourage retention.
Unfortunately, despite the reasonable facilities, the unwelcoming approach of the manager has left me hesitant to continue with this gym, leading to...
Read moreEquipment: Modern with all the essential machines and plenty of benches. Staff: Friendly and welcoming. Layout: Space feels a bit cramped but is well organised. Availability: With only one of each clip-machine, it might get tricky during peak hours. Sanitation: More hand-sanitising stations would be a nice addition please! Facilities: No classes or designated HIIT/Functional area, but it’s a solid option on the North Shore if you just need to lift/cardio. Parking: Convenient and accessible location. Stretching Area: Limited space with only three large mats, placed near bathrooms and the water fountain, making warm-ups/downs feel obstructive of foot traffic and a bit awkward.
