Beam Cafe — Restaurant in Devonport-Takapuna

Our family has been traversing Beam for so many years now and not once did I think to review until now, and criminally so! Immediately rectifying that to let you know that Beam is one of the most consistent, friendlist and most delicious establishments I've been to in all of Australasia.

So much so, its Prawn Eggs Benedict ranks as one of my Top 3 of all-time. I can't say I'm the go-to, definitive ranking system for Eggs Benedicts around the world, but I've had my fair share and not once does it disappoint. Not only does it feature seafood, which is a nice change from the normal smoked salmon/salmon gravlax/cured salmon affair, but it's so beyond delicious that I've had to order extra bread and extra prawns on occassion! And my wife, who's not particularly a fan of seafood, absolutely vows by these transformative prawns. Seriously glorious beyond belief.

The coffee too boot, it never disappoints. Often I circle a few establishments for that morning coffee, and sometimes it doesn't go so well - and that's okay too - but Beam get it right, every. Single. Time.

On top of the owner being so enthusiastic, always so friendly and welcoming - as is her staff - and always noting whether or not I've brought my wife with me. Even goes so far as to bring some toys over for our little one.

Beam is a huge comfort, and how busy it gets is a testament to the wonderful vibe it really brings Milford and its local. We used to be local but since moved further up, but with work not too far, it's always an easy excuse to head over to top up on good fare, and kindness - with warm humans around that add to the atmosphere.

Babies, babies, babies. Being in a schooling area, the seats and sounds of the establishment are filled with babies toiling away, exploring the new world that they find themselves in.

Some may find this uncomfortable or disruptive, but this was just emblematic of the wonderful community spirit that Beam Cafe provides for it's local area.

The staff are some of the friendliest in the country, and the food an excellent pairing to the exquisite coffee that is offered at this coffee house. Even as I write this, a patron sitting opposite me, once getting his delicious caffeinated extraction served to him, immediately asked for another of the same. He knows he will enjoy it so why not just indulge in another. And I shall watch with great satisfaction as yet another patron is served by this incredible business.

We popped in here last week for brunch. Coffees were great and came quickly. It was not too busy but there did seem to be a mix up with our food order which took a while. The staff were apologetic and got us a complimentary brownie to tide us over until the food came. Food was good but a little expensive for what it was. service was good but it wasn't really noticed that we waited 30-40 minutes without plates of food and we had to grab someone to ask where our food was, it then came pretty quickly.
