We booked the discovery cruise very last minute over the phone. We wanted a day trip from Queenstown to show some visiting family the fiordlands scenery. Erica was fantastic over the phone and was able to make some small adjustments to her usual plans on the day to fit us in.

We were aboard the smaller boat 'Flyby' which could speed up to 40 knotts. The views from the boat, as we sped towards the southern fiord of Lake Te Anau, was stunning, with views to the mountains far away to the north end of the lake.

We disembarked and did a small and easy 15 minute walk through some native bush to one of the hidden lakes. Erica pointed out some interesting features along the way and told some good local stories. We even managed to have a go on the paddleboards that were on the boat which made the trip even better!

We zipped over to the other side of the fiord to look at the bluffs which were some spectacular cliffs rising out of the lake; these cliffs peppered with gravity defying trees. Erica took 'Flyby' close into the cliffs where we could see beaches and waterfalls, some waterfalls even close enough to touch.

Throughout the tour Erica was full of interesting facts and entertaining anecdotes as well as just some good chat.

We had a great time on the whole trip and we all felt we'd received great value from the trip. This is a great tour if you want to experience the magic of the fjordlands up close and personal without lots of other people and going all the way to Milford Sound.

We would thoroughly recommend...

We went on the discovery cruise with Erica and Chris to the south Fiord of lake Te Anau for approx. 3 hours, where we stopped off at Fiordland rain forest where Erica took us on a nature walk for 30 mins, which was spectacular. The scenery along this trip was simply breathtaking. While Chris drove the boat, Erica kept us company up on deck imparting her vast knowledge of the lake and surrounding area, along with some great friendly chats. I would highly recommend booking this trip with Chris and Erica as a must do on your travels. This was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. We hope to get back to NZ one day and when we do we will certainly book another trip with Erica and Chris. The motto on their website is absolutely true “arrive as strangers, leave...

My husband and I shared a private tour of Lake Te Anau. The weather was perfect, the lake calm - what a great way to spend an afternoon. We were fortunate to cruise on a new, powerful yet safe and comfortable boat. After crossing the lake we were taken on a gentle walk to Hidden Lakes, during which Erica shared her knowledge about the local plants and birds. We then carried on to a number of waterfalls and secluded beaches. Our time with Erica was informative, relaxing, and exactly what we needed. Erica truly made us feel like family and not "tourists." Thank you for that! We strongly encourage anyone visiting Te Anau to spend some time with Erica and Chris on a...

The personal small boat experience with Erica and Chris was the highlight of my visit to Te Anau. Having done the larger, more popular boat trips on the sounds before, the opportunity to go out on a wonderful small boat spoke to me. There were only 7 of us aboard, including Erica and Chris who manned the boat. We sailed away and it was heaven. Then stopped to dock for a magical walk through a lush rainforest to the Hidden Lake, had coffee and homemade scones on deck and got picked up by a float plane for an aerial tour and ride back to shore. What a day! These guys deserve to be the highest rated boat trip out of Te Anau, but for now it’s our little secret. Do Not Miss this One!
