I recently visited this pie shop, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Upon walking in, I was disappointed by the lack of a warm welcome from the elder Asian woman on staff. As I was perusing the menu for pie options, she simply pointed towards the pantry and curtly stated that those were the only choices left.
When I requested that she pour my coffee into my mug, her response was equally unwelcoming, with a dismissive tone as she informed me that it couldn’t be done since the coffee had already been poured into a cup. Throughout the entire interaction, her demeanor and facial expressions made it clear that she wanted us out of the shop as quickly as possible.
The overall experience was marred by this staff member’s negative attitude, leaving a sour taste in my mouth that overshadowed the enjoyment of the pies. I hope the management takes steps to improve the customer service to create a more welcoming atmosphere...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this place. We tried the venison, lamb+mint, steak&cheese, and apple+blueberry pies. Our favorite was the venison one. It was tender, juicy, flavorful. The lamb and mint was okay. It was a little on the dry side and I get why they put the mint in there, to balance the inherent lamb taste but it does make it taste a little weird. The steak and cheese was okay. Nothing special about it. You basically can get the same thing elsewhere, just not in a pie format. The apple+blueberry pie is like an apple pie from McDonalds or apple turnover from Costco, just stuffed with blueberries. I would have liked to see other sweet pie options (eg peach, mango, or strawberries). I did like the apple+blueberry pie. You can easily eat this on the go and is perfect for the tours that you will be going on and quick to get given the limited time the tours give you. I would highly recommend this place if...
Read moreIt’s my third time here as I would always buy pies here when I am in Te Anau. The venison pie was pretty nice - soft pastry and big portion of venison. Ordered the steak/ mushroom/ bacon- delicious as well but a little bit dry. I also recommend to friends who come to Te Anau to definitely try the pies out.
What made me disappointed was that the Asian lady was obviously showing different attitudes to different customers. The white customer before me was greeted with “ how are you? “ and smiles. When it was my turn it was simply “hi” and no smile at all. I observed a bit further as I was having my pies- her attitude was also good to other white customers. This is quite disappointing - we didn’t expect like “ great service” but at least welcoming and equal to all...
