If you wish to experience a very poor hospitality then you should go to Palliser Estate in Kitchener Street. My wife and I had the chance to spend one night in Martinborough with no children on Saturday the 9 October. We decided to have a glass of their top chardonnay at Palliser Estate (the weather was pristine and lovely) We arrived after 3pm so we sat with our lovely glass of chardonnay in one of the bean bags. At around 4pm we decided to have one more glass when the staff said that we could not purchase another glass as the kitchen has closed. My wife and i were very disappointed. Yes I understand the alcohol law but why on earth would you closed the kitchen at 4pm? You should close the kitchen when you close the Vineyard! the The place was full of people enjoying themselves with also some unopened bottles still, but we had empty glasses. They should have giving us the heads up by saying:- look buy a bottle instead as you wont be able to purchase another glass. We left the place to next door (Tiwaiwaka Wines) and the husband and wife were so welcoming, their chardonnay was amazing and also half the price and, of course, smart enough to keep their kitchen open so they would be able to keep pouring their wines. I come from a country were hospitality is on top of the game and you get treated as a king. Instead, some hospitality business have no clue of how to please customers. We also had very rude group of people seating around a large table being rude and yelling:- are you having fun with the bean bags?! We felt very unwelcoming and I have promised to my wife not to ever come back...
Read moreRead all the favorable reviews about this vineyard so decided to give it a try. Just reached Martinborough and it was the first vineyard we visited. My experience was somewhat different from what's been described. Reached the place around 4.20pm and there were 2 couples there. The counter staff was a French lady. She saw us but averted eye contact with us totally, with no acknowledgement of our presence. We waited about 5-7 mins with still no acknowledgement and decided to leave. There are many more vineyards in Martinborough who welcomed us with open arms. Try the Wine Bank in the centre of town. They have lots of wine for tasting and closed at 7pm. Staff at Wine Bank were fantastic n knowledgeable. I'll give Palliser Wine a miss and will give an objective review of this place to all my sommeliers' friends as well. There are many more vineyards here that welcome you with open arms. This is a pity as I believed the cold attitude shown might not be representative of their management. However, management at Palliser still have to be accountable for their staff...
Read moreMany years ago when I was working for a thai lady in the vineyards around Martinborough I was working at this vineyard. I can't stand wine personally! The first time I try the wine from Martinborough was amazing many years ago I visited Martinborough and brought a bottle of sauvignon Blanc the taste is amazing and wish I brought two bottles. The best wine is in Martinborough. The only wine that suits my taste buds. I'm glad the town has a future. My mother's family arrived in the town in the late 1850s. I have seen Martinborough when the town was dead and now alive with these vineyards. So get in behind and support these vineyards. The wine is amazing. It's the only wine I like.. thank you for another amazing bottle of wine. If you haven't tried Martinborough wine you are missing out on good quality wine. So please try the next time when you are up in amazing...
