Overpriced and disappointing meal. Made the mistake of going here on Waitangi day as we could only find this place and another open on that day. The service was average at best. The server struggled to work the till and got our order wrong - only to spend 15 minutes trying to fix it. Drinks came out way after the meal. But the meal was the biggest disappointment. Because of the 15% surcharge on the public holiday I paid around $25 for two pieces of thin bread, dipped in an egg mix with the smallest amount of whipped cream and three tiny raspberries. I'm not even sure where the maple syrup was meant to be on this dish. Lacking fruit, store bought bread, and if i wanted to add bacon, it was going to put this meal over $30 - disgusting. My partner got the eggs on toast. No butter for the toast and barely passable as being "eggs" - more like one egg on dry toast. He also ordered a side of mushrooms, which were something like $6 for 3 tiny mushrooms. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place and won't be back ever. This is the most overpriced place I've ever been to. If the meal was amazing, I wouldn't have cared about the price but it was cheaply put together and rushed. Should be...
Read moreStarted with ordering the special (wagyu) and a couple of gin and tonics. The gin order was half correct. Not normally a big deal but a little annoying. Then my main came out and the wagyu beef ($47.50) was overcooked. Overcooked to the point where the chefs had sliced it to stop it continually cooking between leaving them and arriving at me. The staff - pleasant, but far from professional. The waitress was more interested in making small talk than getting our orders correct. We asked for the pudding menu, she moved on to another table of blokes and basically forgot we existed. I asked her on her way passed for the dessert menu and she bought us spoons and said the puddings we ordered should be with us shortly... remember we hadn't even got the menus yet. We didn't stay for puddings as we personally felt the selection was bizzare and had too many combinations of conflicting flavours in each dish.
Overall, disappointing.
P.s. we got told rather bluntly not to "fill up on bread" because the mains are huge. This was definitely not true and we ended up cooking sausages on the bbq when we got home....
Read moreYesterday was the first and last time ill ever go here. We had a large booking for lunch for a birthday. It would of been nice to be reminded when I rang to book about surcharges on public holidays, so although I should of expected it I just forgot until we got there from masterton and there was a sign outside 15% surcharge which I personally think is just greedy. Booking was at 12, orders were finally placed at 1 by which time many of us (including children) were starving. Toilets were so filthy that I complained. Seafood linguine was very average and dessert was extremely overpriced - a very small scoop of sorbet and an equally small amount of caramel cream on an otherwise empty plate was $20. Management, who i believe her name was Janine, was very very rude to us about not being allowed to smoke or vape in the outside garden. The napoleon room was cramped, dark and cold. Overall very disappointed, average food, poor service, and would not recommend
EDIT There is no point in trying to justify yourself. Im still not impressed, and Ill still be spending my money...
