We had a wonderful time at Tonic Sunday 21 July. I enjoyed the Cheshire Cat cocktail and felt good that it supports Rachel’s Rescues. There were many options for this. My mole enchiladas with additional barbacoa beef were super tasty and my partner shared some of his pork belly with me and it was delicious. We saved room for dessert and got recommendations for drink pairings. I had the basque cheesecake and a yipeekayay(sp?) cocktail- excellent! Just the right amount of spice to complement the richness- The lava chocolate cake and muscat also were great together. Flavors were layered and complex, presentation was beautiful with fresh flowers on plates a nice touch. The fit out is elegant yet comfortable. Service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Highly recommend

We experienced great service considering it was a busy night with limited staff and yet we were well looked after. We very much enjoyed our delicious cocktails, small plates and dessert. The range of gins is extensive and the staff recommendation was spot on. We definitely recommend this bistro and hope to be back in the future.

Came for coffee and hot chocolate but saw their dessert menu so we came back specially for that after dinner. Not disappointed at all. Had the Affogato, Salted Caramel Chocolate Lava Cake and Tiramisu. Worth every calorie!! 😅 they also had a special Feijoa Mojito and this was super yums!

Worst customer service we have ever experienced! We came here for drinks and dessert. The staff were extremely rude and the dessert was pretty average. We were there with kids, and the lady came and told us to stop yelling (we were not yelling, and the music was so loud it was hard to hear anything). When we went to pay, we told the staff how we thought they were being rude and they said this was a bar and there was no high chair so they were obviously not kid friendly. The owner was aggressive and in my mums face. There was no apology and it literally states on google maps that they are a restaurant. I don’t recommend this place and certainly not with children.

Update: his reply to this review is shocking and rude. There was no slamming of doors, no broken glass, for a family of 9 we were not loud. There were no cushions on the ground, we moved seats and the kids forgot their jackets but we collected them as soon as we realised. The parents were supervising the kids very closely and actually took the kids outside for most of the time so they weren’t loud as we were considerate of other customers. We were there for all of 20 minutes and in this time we felt discriminated against. I am actually disgusted by his comments, this owner is a liar and clearly doesn’t know what hospitality is! He is writing fake reviews about us to make us look like...

Overpriced for what was delivered, definition of "shrink flation". Don't mind paying for small portion if the quality and flavour are exceptional but sadly they couldn't manage the latter. When asked for feedback the manager seemed slightly surprised and became defensive, borderline combative. A very underwhelming experience, our waitress was great though. The quantity of Mascarpone with the donuts was pathetic and the others at the table were also unimpressed with their portion sizes. I told the manager that the ice cream or what ever came with it was not enough to balance the flavour of the donuts. This is edited and if you read his response he gets defensive in telling me he wasn't defensive. Never be back ever. The American chap's tone is condescending and arrogant. Spend your dollar somewhere else.

Mr Manager, You asked for feedback at the til which is where I gave the feedback genius. So if I had complained about the portion size when it had come out what would you have done......nothing because that is your portion size. As far as you attitude and tone are concerned, when I raised the issue you responded with a tone, clearly I'm not the only one with exactly the same complaints, portion size and...

Best restaurant in Martinborough! We tried many restaurants, but what makes this restaurant special is that its food is cooked to perfection, it the best offering of drinks (wine, cocktails and after dinner drinks) and great attentive service. We had the Romesco Cauliflower as a starter, which was great, and as a main, The Bordelaise steak skewer, which was out of this world. The wine Michael recommended (New Zealand Groves, St. Laurent) was the perfect pairing for the skewer. The dessert menu includes a cheese disk with desert wines, but we loved the St. Laurent so much we ordered another glass and the "petite" cheese plate of the appetizer menu for desert and that was another great hit: not petite at all, great chuck of Manchego with crackers, baguette slices, green apple slices. My wife got the Affogato, locally sourced, karamu espresso, fantastic ice cream and coffee liqueur, beautifully presented. What a meal! They also have an incredible selection of special after-dinner drinks - Chartreuse, Cognac (Pierre Ferrand etc), Bourbon and Scotch). It is OK to just drop by for an after-dinner drink. Great value and highly...
