What an unexpected pleasure it was to dine here, it was like being teleported to a cozy restaurant on king st in Newtown Sydney. Oozing ambiance from the colourful tablecloths to the neon chicken hanging next to the tequila stocked bar i bopped along to the very cool playlist in the background. After arriving in martinbourogh at 6pm after a long drive from Auckland I browsed the menu before circling the block to peruse what takings were on offer and from a chefs point of view I can tell you Mesita is a hidden gem and being so was completely booked out for the evening so we ventured next door to tonic for a cafe meal and some drinks while we waited for a table to free up at Mesita and it was well worth the wait. Even though I had already eaten a main next door I ordered a rib eye steak with horseradish that was cooked to perfection and only available medium rare (as it should be ) and a side of radish with porcini butter that was a umami experience of perfect balance in a dish that really blew me away in the most complimentary way, after a few more drinks and a cheeky cocktail I had the pleasure of meeting the owners who are amazing and honestly I would be best friends with if I didnāt live so far away but I hope to return to martinborough just to eat at Mesita again it was one of the best dining experiences I have had in New Zealand and highly recommend anyone travelling to the area to book in advance and enjoy the culinary expertise of Hayden and the intoxicating and delicious cocktails from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMesita is a great little wine bar, a bit of an insider's and locals secret hideaway. They've got a seriously great wine list, including some wines unavailable elsewhere (check out the devotes wines next time you're in). A recent welcome addition is the partnership with Abandoned Breweries which means you can get their excellent lager on tap. In addition to musical guests and great drinks, the staff is fantastic, super professional but in a relaxed informal environment which is very inclusive every one is made to feel welcome. Hayden runs the kitchen and is equally at home making Mexican classics as he is at flipping burgers or turning out amazing curries on Curry Mondays. They also frequently have live music and djs playing throughout the year. If you haven't been to Mesita, make sure you add it to your list next time you are in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas not impressed with the service. It seems that this small town wine bar has a lot to learn if it is to be successful. A clicky group of people that tend to there own needs. There egos seem inflated as they have a air of protentiouness about them. It may help if the staff are given training around how to deal with the public and encourged to be more friendly. The owner seems to be stuck in a time warp trying to recreate a early 90s grunge feel that just does not cut it. After ordering cocktails they seemed put out that they had to bring our drinks to our table. This is normal service practice. It would also help if the bar person takes off his small beanie as itās bad etiquette, this is all...
