I have been to the One Tree Grill quite a few times over the last fifteen years and always had a great dining experience. Except for last night. We were a party of 5. Three particular incidents soured my view of the restaurant. One of my friends is an elderly friend who is hard of hearing, has bad eyesight and has an onset on Parkinson's (his hands shake). He was trying to use the pepper shaker (he didn't realize that it was a grinder and was trying to shake the pepper over his meal). The waiter was telling him that it was a grinder and as my friend didn't hear him, the waiter grabbed (with some force) the grinder from his shaking hands and ground some pepper on the table cloth. My friend didn't realize what the waiter was so abrupt about and still tried to shake the pepper instead of using it as a grinder. This is when the waiter again grubbed the pepper grinder and again ground the pepper on the table cloth and was being rude in the tone of his voice. My other friend said to the waiter that there was no need to be rude and that's when the waiter walked away and muttered something unintelligible. The second incident is when we asked the another waiter for another round of beers the same as what we already had (Peroni - which we got in 400 ml glasses and is on tap and I assumed that we got Heiniken as my other friend had ordered the beers and I did not know that it was Peroni)so I just said same as what we already had 4 Heiniken assuming that the waiter would know that tap beer is Peroni. After waiting for quite some time the waiter brought 4 Heiniken bottles and we said we wanted 4 on the tap. He promptly took them back and the Manager came to ask if we ordered Heniken. I explained that we asked for 4 of the same and as the waiter didn't seem to know that Peroni comes in 400 ml glasses he asked what beer it was and I said I thought it was Heiniken. It was some time before we got our beers. The Manager's demaeanor was one of extreme annoyance. The third incident was when we asked the waiter for more bread rolls. None came. So we asked again. The waiter went away and came back to ask if we knew they were $4 dollars each. As if we looked like we couldn't afford it. We finally go the rolls - just before we finished the main course. The whole experience was unpleasant. Will not...
Read moreThey seemed to have blocked my review on the First Table app, so I’m posting it here again. This time, they only deserve two stars. I even left a $10 tip when I paid and this is the service I got. On August 12, my friend and I went there for dinner, and here’s the review I originally left on First Table: The sirloin cooked medium-rare was delicious, but my friend felt the oysters were not worth the price and were not properly prepared, as we kept finding shell fragments in them.
In addition, the staff need more training regarding First Table bookings. I booked a regular table through First Table, but when the server introduced to us, they said, “We have a special offer for First Table today,” and explained that the food would be 50% off, except for the set menu and oysters, which would be full price. While I was still looking at the menu, the server asked us to order drinks. I said I didn’t want a drink, but they told me that because we had the 50% off offer, there was a minimum spend requirement of at least one drink. At that moment, I didn’t double-check whether we actually had the 50% off discount.
When paying the bill, I reviewed the order details and paid without noticing anything wrong. Later, after leaving, I realised we hadn’t received the 50% off discount. I went back before closing time to confirm with staff, and they simply told me that my booking was for a regular table, so there was no discount. I said, “But the server told us we had today’s special offer for First Table.” They just replied that it was a mistake.
I didn’t want to argue—after all, I had booked a regular table and was supposed to pay full price. However, for a restaurant at this price point, such mistakes should not happen, and I feel the restaurant did not handle the situation well when it occurred. The staff simply apologised and said it was a mistake, which I believe is not adequate crisis management. Furthermore, if I did not have the 50% off offer, I wouldn’t have ordered extra drinks just to meet First Table’s minimum spend...
Read moreJuly 2022 Well it's a 18 months later and when it came for my mother's 90th birthday celebration we thought of One Tree Grill immediately! We had a bigger space this time that sat up to 30. I was thrilled with the room when we arrived. Beautifully appointed and comfortable for our number. Perfect for this special occasion. All our party were amazed at the fantastic food and we've been fielding calls all day about it. Every part of the set menu delighted. The staff were welcoming, approacheable and attentive to all our whims and we can't thank them enough for making this family event so memorable. One Tree Grill is a perfect mixture of classy, relaxed and warm and I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone. ..................................................................................... Dec 2020 We were a disorganised bunch, booking for 15 but not everyone turning up then others turning up! The staff were patient, efficient and attentive to our every whim. We ordered from the set three-course dinner. This was amazing for everyone...beautifully cooked and presented - interesting flavours and combinations and decent portions....and they offer the best wine to go with every dish. This is the next day and I've told so many people already because you can bet on a fantastic meal in tasteful surroundings. We were celebrating a special occasion and this place totally supported the event for our family. Thanky you to...
