DISCRIMINATION INCIDENT: My sister has Stage 4 Metastatic Gastric Cancer, her mobility and energy levels have decreased significantly since being diagnosed two months ago. We arrived at Sylvia Park Info Desk to hire a mobility scooter, as we had done in August, and was confronted by a rude and dismissive Customer Service Representative (CSR). This was one of her first non-doctor related excursions since August. Long story short, the Sylvia Park CSR greeted us with "read the signs, we're not hiring them today" and turned away from us. She then picked up her phone and continued to ignore us while we stood awkwardly in front of her. My sister has a full brace from her neck to below her chest (visible to others) and we had medical papers encase they were required to hire the scooter. Rather than explain that they were unable to help, we were ignored and dismissed without any assistance. Note: There were no signs about scooters not being hired while in Alert Level 2. MANAGEMENT RESPONSE: Fabulous!!! After being dismissed by the CSR, my sister decided she still wanted to have lunch as it was less than a 2min walk from the Info Desk. I decided to call and make an official complaint with the Sylvia Park Management team and their response was above and beyond. Tyla (sp?) took my number and details of what happened. She called me back 15mins later and asked if she could join us to discuss in person. Moments later, Tyla had joined us and explained the situation with the mobility scooters. She then assured us that they would investigate what happened, gave us a couple of coffee vouchers and completely turned the situation around for us. If it wasn't for Tyla's response and empathy, this experience would've completely changed the way we viewed Sylvia Park Shopping Centre.

Sylvia Park is easily one of the best shopping centres in Auckland. It’s huge, modern, and has pretty much everything you could want in one spot. The range of stores is impressive – from big international brands to local NZ shops, plus plenty of specialty stores for fashion, electronics, books, homeware and more. It’s laid out well so even though it’s busy most days, it doesn’t feel overcrowded. The food options are a big highlight. The food court is massive with plenty of variety, but what I love most is the outdoor dining precinct – it feels like a mini high street with cafés, bars and restaurants for every taste. Whether you’re after a quick snack, a coffee catch-up, or a nice dinner, there are plenty of choices. Entertainment-wise, the Hoyts cinema is top-notch, with recliner seating and a good mix of movies. There are also fun family-friendly spaces and seasonal events, so it’s not just a shopping trip but an outing. Parking is big and spread out across different zones, though it can be hectic on weekends or holidays. The good thing is they’ve made it easier with electronic signs showing available spaces. Public transport connections are great too, with a train station right next to the centre. Overall, Sylvia Park is more than a mall – it’s a lifestyle destination. You can shop, eat, catch a movie, and spend the whole day here without running out of things to do. Definitely my favourite place to shop and hang out in Auckland! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's a must-visit destination that sets the bar high for retail and leisure hubs. A high-tech improvement for Sylvia Park Shopping Centre could be the integration of an advanced smart mall app. This app would harness technology to enhance the overall shopping experience by offering features such as:

Augmented Reality (AR) Navigation: Visitors can use their smartphones to access AR directions, making it easier to find specific stores, dining options, or parking spaces seamlessly. Personalized Recommendations: Leveraging AI, the app could analyze user preferences and shopping history to suggest tailored offers, promotions, and new products.
