I wasn’t expecting such an interesting dive into science in the when we waked in I immediately notice an awesome scientific discovery gift shop 🦖 🧫 💫
Our wonder was shortly followed by a full blown working Tesla Coil! but we had to wait to the end of the tour to see that working*
The factory tour opens up to a wonderful mixture of science and pop culture. Everything felt interactive. From some of the century old still working arcade games, vintage technology and communication devices. I even had a wee play on the reed organ 🎶 🎹 😁
Our guide, Sharon showed us to the unique diesel generator at the back of the room that kept the lights on for Napier during the 1930’s tragic earthquake that practically destroyed the town.
What’s sad is that the building the museum is housed in needs work to stay open and she’s hoping council will step in and save the museum. Come on Napier City Council, it’s an amazing educational facility for visiting schools 🏫 🙏
The last part of the tour was epic! Seeing a working Tesla Coil made my hair stand on end ⚡️
Huge thanks to Sharon and all of the volunteers who keep the museum going.
100% recommend....
Read moreThis working exhibit museum of yesteryear technologies is a credit to Napier City - outside MOTAT in Auckland and Tawhiti in Hawera there is really nothing like this in the North Island that I know of for families - it fills a gap that I think TePapa in Wellington seems to have lost in its quest to fill a more sophisticated interactive & exhibition market or the Musuem of Wellington (formally known as the Maritime Museum) where a few yesteryear exhibits are displayed. Entry price pretty reasonable and parking on surrounding streets fairly good. A few exhibits found to be broken and in need of repair. Piano upstairs a big hit with the family as were the various working pumps, morse key set etc. A 2 hour visit to comfortably get around all the exhibits. Would be good to have a section developed into a yesteryear movie room to showcase Napier over the years - am sure there is some excellent footage that can be run from time to time. Overall a big thumbs up for a great 2 hour outing with the family...
Read moreHands in fun for all ages and please keep it going! It’s a gem ❤️
It was an unplanned visit so we only had around two hours to look around the museum. Although it is a lot smaller than MOTAT in Auckland, we have had much more fun here and two hours were definitely not enough if you are curious about everything! From technology in the home, to electromagnetism, to world war technology, there is something for everyone.
We absolutely loved how the information and explanation were kept to a minimal so they give you a quick overview of how things work. There are in depth info booklet or video for those who wish to find out more. Almost EVERY SINGLE item at the exhibition allows you to have hands on experience an invited you to give them a try.
We have learnt so much and the staff were all super friendly too! This is definitely a gem that we...
