This was a slightly odd place, with a country western theme in the middle of New Zealand. We started outside, for a drink first of all, and then moved inside for a further drink and some food. We've found eating out in New Zealand to be reasonably priced, but this place was higher priced than most we visited. It sounded like they were offering a meal to match their pricing, but they under delivered on what was advertised. First of all service - this was very good. We were served by a young woman who was thoughtful, attentive and very helpful. She made suggestions, kept an eye on our table, and responded very quickly when we needed anything. Now to come to the food. We ordered one of the specials 'Savannah Lamb.' I've attached a photo of one of the advertising leaflets with a picture of slices of lamb looking very succulent and attractive, which was why we ordered it. I've also attached a picture of the actual dish when it arrived. It looks more like a lamb stew, with lumps of lamb rather than a sliced roast. We ate it, and it was okay, but if I'd known how different it would be from the advert I wouldn't have ordered it. For drink we decided to have a local wine. It was nice, drinkable, juicy, pleasant with very little aftertaste. Again I struggled with the description though. The drinks list - photo attached again describes it as "a dark and fragrant Bordeaux style red" again I found that over-promising. It didn't have the tannins and depth I would have expected for that. So somewhat disappointing, mainly in that they talked an extremely good game, but didn't come close to performing to the level they promised.

The customer service by the guy who seated us was awesome he was lovely. However the young trainee girl forgot our water we had asked for , was quite rude when it came to me ordering for my children as she assumed I was ordering off the children's menu for myself which clearly I wasn't when my two under 7 year old children were seated by her and can clearly see they cannot order for themselves. She was quick to snap and assume. The ribs were very sickening after awhile was very sweet but was lovely , huge portion. Different taste very orangey. My partner wasn't a fan of the coleslaw , it lacked flavour but his steak was cooked to perfection and the mushroom sauce was yum. My children enjoyed their meals and the attention they were getting from the waiter that seated us. The seats are dangerous as my daughters seat kept giving way from underneath her and falling over , rubber feet on the wooden chairs would help to prevent anyone else getting injured like this especially an elderly person. My daughter has bruised her tailbone from simply getting off her seat or reaching for her glass of drink. The disabled toilets/baby changing facility is absolutely revolting the smell that comes from that toilet is disgusting it lingers at the entrance way to get to the toilets. It is the first toilet on the left. Changing the nappy bin more throughout the service would help and adding the toilet gel inside the bins could help. I would not change my baby in there I would vomit from spending 5 seconds in there. But other than that the presentation was good , the service from the 2 male waiters and the Asian waitress was superb.

My partner and I went out on a limb and decided to go for dinner at Napier Lone Star on Monday 11/10/21, after I had not been there for about 10 years due to the quality of the food from the previous owner's management. The Duty Manager, Alistair, was very welcoming and accommodating due to my dietary restrictions and provided a blanket for me as it was chilly outside. He and the other waiters were very attentive, completing meal checks and coming over when I looked their way for assistance even when it started to get busy, which coming from a past waitress is really important for customer satisfaction. I ordered a coke and it tasted like it was fresh out of a bottle! Every other cafe or restaurant I go to their ratios are really off with how they make their mixers and it always tastes quite bad. My partner was happy to see they had Panhead Supercharger available which is a fantastic craft beer. We were starving so we ordered the garlic loaf which was so yummy and fresh, and a good portion size. We also got the mixed bean dip with flour tortilla chips and it was so amazing, I wanted to recreate the dip at home haha. I ordered the Vege burrito for my main which came with a side of slaw and rustic cut potato chips and my partner got the classic Johnny Cash stash. Our meals were really delicious and we were so stuffed we couldn't finish them. Both our starters and meals came out quickly too. Thank you all for a lovely evening with great food and customer service, we will definitely be back!

My daughter and I went to dinner tonight and first let me start with a positive. The service from our server was impeccable. She was personable, fun and made us feel very welcome. We ordered our food and waited with our drinks. At one point, a person who I assumed was another of the servers grabbed my daughter’s drink from the table. There was still some of it left but he didn’t even ask if she was finished with it. I didn’t say anything as my daughter embarrasses easily. We decided she would order another drink when our food arrived. My daughter ordered a medium rare steak. When the food arrived, we questioned whether it was medium rare as the middle looked raw and it was quite obvious the steak had a lot of gristle. That’s not what I would expect when paying $49.80 for a steak meal. I bought it to our server’s attention who promptly apologised and said she would get the manager who is a chef. This is the guy who took my daughters drink away. We told our concerns and he said it looks like medium rare to me. He then offered to have it put back on the grill. When it returned it looked like it had only been grilled more on one side which made it half well done and half medium rare. I cut a piece off to try but had to spit it out cause I couldn’t chew it. So she left more than half the steak on the plate. I don’t think it’s unreasonable of me to expect better when you pay close to $50 for a steak. When we got to the counter to pay, we were asked how the meal was and I said I’ve had much better. No one thought to maybe offer something by way of compensation for the meal. So after paying $125 for our meals we left. Just one final thing, my daughter told me on the way home that there were no paper towels to dry her hands in the toilet. Not good guys/girls. My expectations were much higher but the chips and...

Went to Lone Star Napier this evening for dinner. My family and I are here for a very short getaway. We very rarely go out for dinner as its always so expensive, but thought we'd treat ourselves. The staff were very nice. My young son and I decided to share a meal of fish n chips as I cannot eat large meals. The special was Gurnard and came with 3 pieces of fish. I gave him two pieces which he ate very quickly. I then went to eat my fish, which was just awful. It was the driest piece of fish I've ever had. I honestly couldn't eat it. Unfortunately my son didn't know any better and ate all his. I on the other hand know my fish reasonably well, so i didn't proceed with my meal. I brought it to the attention of the waitress when she came over to check on our meals. She spoke to the manager and they did offer to cook up something else for me. I looked thoroughly through the menu, but couldn't find anything else that I wanted. I opted to have a desert instead. Very nice desert. Would have liked a bit more ice-cream to measure up to the pudding, but that's really here nor there. Not the point of my review. It was exceptionally busy in the restaurant, and there was quite long waits between drinks, meals and desert. The kids were bored, and because of the long waits, I was pretty done myself. Just wanted to get back to our hotel. Management did deduct my desert from the bill, which I am thankful for. But overall it was a disappointing experience, and I was gutted having spent so much money when I could have had fish n chips back home where the Gurnard is just lovely, or could have got KFC for a third of the price. My husband's dinner was not terribly good either, but he has posted a separate review regarding that. Very disappointing food wise and price wise. Won't be dining here again next time...

After reading the reviews on this place, I was very excited to try this place. Have lived in Napier my whole life but have never tried this place. However unfortunately my experience here was not good.

Firstly we were greeted with lovely service and menus were given. After we had ordered we waited about 30 mins… for a salad and nachos… I understand the restaurant was a bit busy but 30 minutes for a salad and nachos was way too long. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing there but both meals LACKED flavour.

The Comanche salad was tasteless, chicken was dry, dressing was minimal to non existent. Overall super underwhelming. Not to mention the nachos were terrible, and lacked flavour immensely. The meat serving on top of the nacho chips was inadequate. Not merely enough that would compare to the ratio of nacho chips given. Disappointing and looks as if something they would serve in 5 minutes at a Mexican fast food joint, not an actual restaurant. In fact you would probably get more from the fast food joint than this place…

A few minutes after we had taken our last bite the next waiter decided to shove the desert menu in our face. After our tasteless meals we did not want to spend another minute there so up and paid the bill before leaving.

Disappointing and underwhelming are two words I could use to describe my experience. Maybe I should’ve ordered the ribs or something better but I am not willing to come back here so there will not be a next time.

They also said you do not need to make a booking when I rang, but asked me when I got there if I had a booking??. I also noticed that the place looked a bit overbooked or packed. Large groups were walking in and this is concerning and probably a result of their no bookings needed policy. This increased wait times for not just my party but...
