Just an eye opening review for others. They are looting and ripping off. Displaying items on discounted price but charging fully and that's probably one of reason people believe they are costlier. Same thing happen with me and my wife during our visit to Wanaka new world branch buying toothpastes brush and observe they are charging MRP instead of discounted price which is mentioned on shelves. This we easily identified cos that was only 1 item and we were doing self check-in and strange thing is lady at self check didn't even apologise for mistake and just get one discounted card from somewhere and tap on machine and we got discount. But we ripped off when we went next time on same day to get more groceries(more than 1 item) which is sometime very hard to track in anyone busy schedule life or tourist hassles. Attaching bills. Strange thing which we observed is, they don't even provide bills neither at counter nor at self check-in so that no one can identify and claim them for looting. You won't get itemised bill at self check because they have done settings like that and by chance if you go to counter they will ask explicitly do you required bill or not. Pretty straight forward they are ripping off tourist who can't even come back to fight for it and claim for refund. Again it may not be bigger amount for us but I am sure they are looting everyone considering such a busy place and so many customers...
Read moreI went to the shop to return a windy farm milk bottle that I bought yesterday, a staff member at front counter told me to clean the bottle. I then washed the bottle and went back to the counter to see the lady again. There were two gentlemen buying lottery tickets so I waited for my turn. This time the lady did take the bottle and started typing on the screen. But she stopped in the middle of the process and told me she needs to serve the lady on the other side. I was a bit confused because that lady came much later after me, but I thought maybe she only had one or two items and the bottle return process is more complicated. After a couple more minutes I found out that the lady had so many things and I will have to wait there for much longer. I got quite upset at that time, luckily another team member came to me and helped me with that return in 5seconds ! I don’t know how that staff member picked her customers, maybe she decided to server that lady because she was western looking and I am Asian. Regardless, this whole experience was super unfair and...

On December 16, 2024, around 8:16 PM, I experienced unfair treatment at New World Wanaka. While using the self-checkout counter, a female employee closely monitored my actions in a way that was noticeably different from how other customers were treated.
I was purchasing some fruits and had just weighed them when, without asking for my permission or explaining her actions, the employee took the bag from me to double-check it. After that, she stood right next to me with her arms crossed, carefully watching every single item I scanned to ensure I had entered everything correctly.
Meanwhile, other customers were left alone to complete their transactions without such scrutiny. It was clear that her actions were targeted specifically at me, which made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unfairly singled out.
I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses such discriminatory behavior to ensure all customers are treated with respect...
