An incredible ziplining experience - highly recommended.
After riding a bus from Glenorchy to the facility, fitting harnesses and undergoing a quick training session - the true experience begins. There's a difficult walk at the start - about 20 minutes up a very steep hill. But, this walk is through beautiful beech forest, and there are frequent stops for the guides to explain some features of the forest, and the history of the course.
Once at the top, you progress through 8 Ziplines of varying heights and lengths before returning back to the facility.
The views are absolutely STUNNING! You will soar over gorgeous valleys, down roaring rivers and over beautiful waterfalls.
The zipline itself is thrilling. It's very freeing to fly across the landscape and see nature pass by under you.
Each line has a name and its own unique story, and it's great to hear how the course was put together as you ride through it. It feels very friendly, and not at all like a big zipline business put together for a buck. It is clear that real passion was put into the creation of the ziplines by the enigmatic Chris and his friends. The secret ingredient in these ziplines is love!
Our guides Andre and Erin were incredible. Very charismatic, funny and great at telling the story of the zipline course. They answered all our questions, and even used some extra time to let us hang in the middle of one of the shorter lines for a bit (I wouldn't expect this, I think we got lucky with a smaller group of confident zipliners).
I brought a GoPro on a pole, which is no longer allowed, but Andre was very apologetic, and said that if I had mentioned when we were fitting harnesses he could have lent me a wrist-mount. If you have a camera you want to use on the lines themselves, it seems a wrist mount would be allowed and encouraged, but I would always check first. There are plenty of opportunities to take photos and videos with your camera or phone when you are walking between launch and landing sites, as long as you have a zip pocket to store it in while riding. A zipped up backpack is allowed on the lines.
I recommend wearing long pants, enclosed shoes and socks to cover your angles. Wear a long sleeved shirt that covers your waist, and down to your wrists, and depending on weather a light jumper. I got a little bit warm on a hotter day with a hoodie, but it was all I had with long sleeves. Avoid clothing with tassles if you can.
If you are based in Queenstown, I recommend the Info & Track bus service to Glenorchy, just make sure to inform Paradise that you will be travelling with them so that they can expect you. You're Info & Track bus will probably give you some spare time in Glenorchy, so I recommend bringing some swimwear and a towel to take a dip in the Dart River at the Glenorchy Wharf.
For the Lord of the Rings fans, Paradise Ziplines doesn't run through the Paradise area of Glenorchy used while filming the trilogy, but the beech forest is very reminiscent of those sequences.
I highly recommend Paradise Ziplines. It was an incredible experience - and a standout highlight of our New Zealand trip. Oh, and to Erin & Andre -...
Read moreOur work team recently had the pleasure of doing a ziplining adventure with Paradise Ziplines in Glenorchy, and it was nothing short of remarkable! First and foremost, a massive thank you to Knuth & the team for being incredibly accommodating when we realized we had made a mistake with our booking date. Despite the short notice, they went above and beyond to adjust our booking, ensuring our plans went smoothly—a gesture we deeply appreciate. Their punctuality also deserves special mention. We were picked up even before the agreed time, which was crucial given our packed schedule for the day. It’s rare to see such reliability, and it set a positive tone for the rest of our experience. Read moreWhat an awesome experience. From start to finish we had a great time.
Experience started in Glenorchy where Emma (one of the guides) greeted us before transporting us via minibus to the zipline location about 10mins west of Glenorchy. She was great at providing local information and interesting facts about the surrounding area whilist heading to the start area.
Once we arrived, we were then greeted by Shane (another guide) who ran us through a quick and informative tutorial before heading up the hill to the first zipline.
Whilst heading up the hill Shane and Emma talked about the local fauna which was super interesting. Definitely took our mind off the 15 minute climb!
Once we made it to the zipline we were very impressed and a little anxious. The zipline is about 100-120 meters above the canyon. The views whilst rolling along the zipline are impressive you get a 360 view of the canyon and can see all the way to the mountains in the distant south.
All following ziplines were great fun and both Emma and Shane were great guides. They ensured that we felt safe and in control throughout the whole experience. Highly highly...
