A Haven of Warmth in Glenorchy's Chill.
Nestled in the heart of Glenorchy, Akin Cafe is a hidden gem that's worth seeking out, come rain or shine. On a day when the Tasmanian winter was in full force – winds howling and rain lashing against windows – I stumbled upon this cozy sanctuary, and boy, was I in for a treat!
From the moment I stepped inside, the warmth of Akin enveloped me like a comforting hug. The staff, with their genuine smiles and welcoming demeanor, immediately made me feel like a regular, despite it being my first visit. Their friendliness was a stark and welcome contrast to the gloomy weather outside.
But the true star of the show? The coffee. Oh, the coffee! As an espresso aficionado, I've sipped my fair share of brews across the globe, but Akin's offering is truly world-class. Rich, smooth, and with a depth of flavor that dances on the palate, it's the kind of espresso that makes you close your eyes and savor every sip. It's not just coffee; it's liquid art.
And what's a great coffee without a perfect accompaniment? Enter Akin's carrot cake – a slice of heaven on a plate. Moist, perfectly spiced, and with just the right balance of sweetness, it was the ideal partner to my exceptional espresso. Together, they created a symphony of flavors that turned a dreary day into a delightful culinary adventure.
Akin Cafe isn't just serving food and drinks; they're crafting experiences. In a world of chain cafes and rushed service, this place stands out as a reminder of what a true cafe should be – a warm, inviting space where great coffee, delicious treats, and genuine hospitality come together.
Whether you're a local looking for your new favorite spot or a traveler seeking refuge from Glenorchy's unpredictable weather, Akin Cafe is a must-visit. It's more than just a cafe; it's a destination in itself, promising a little slice of comfort and luxury in your day.
Next time you're in Glenorchy, do yourself a favor and stop by Akin. Trust me, your taste buds (and your soul)...
Read moreI always look forward to that first sip of coffee in the morning! Whilst travelling around New Zealand the last 2 weeks, I've had some really amazing coffees. This coffee only rated a about a 3 out of 5 for me and my mate said his was about the same.
Walking into this spot, the atmosphere inside and outside is really nice and I wish we had more time to sit and soak up the views that are almost 360 degrees of pure magic.
For me, the service is important when it comes to a place. I couldn't give it more than 3 stars, hearing the staff say to someone before us "You should have thought of that before ordering" or something very similar when he wanted to dispose of his rubbish and was asking where a bin was, was a little shocking at first. Poor guy thought he was on an earlier tour and would have ordered it dine in.
I'm all for environmental responsibility when it comes to waste and lifestyle choices. It's a little ironic, that a place so passionate about the environment serves animal products, which by far cause the most amount of environmental waste and are also the biggest drain on our natural resources. Just some food for thought 🤠
Felt too harsh giving this...
Read moreI poured my tea from the teapot the cafe had supplied into their cup and as I needed to know how much liquid I was consuming I then tipped the tea into my own mug. I was told off for using my own mug because ‘this is a restaurant’!!!! What!! I paid for the tea, I used their cup but just wanted to measure how much liquid I was consuming- never experienced such behaviour lacking in any sort of empathy - unfortunately we are not all blessed with good health. Asked for a menu - very, very limited offering - no gluten free. I had a slice in my bag and so thought I have that - no! Not allowed, when I pointed out about no gluten free offerings I was told that there are other things????? But didn’t I just ask for a menu? Why wasn’t I given the full list of what was on offer - it’s not up to me to ask if there’s anything else??!! Extremely disappointing and very unfriendly- unfortunately they have a captive market in Kinloch - no competition, take a flask, buy a sandwich at Glenorchy, DO NOT GO TO AKIN CAFE for good service, service with a smile, any understanding of food allergies and definitely, under no circumstances, use your own mug for tea bought and...
