I used to love bringing my dog to this EXTREMELY POPULAR dog park. He's a rescue so needs a regular place to go, that's very quiet and not crowded. At peak times parking was a bit of a stretch. There are only 10 spots, including 2 Disabled spots and often there would be 20 cars. But you could mount the kerb and park out of the way in a vacant space that none of the walkers ever use. During the Meola Road upgrade Auckland Council not only further restricted parking along Meola road, it also placed additional boulders so that parking in the vacant space is now completely unavailable. As usual, Auckland Council doesn't appear to have done any homework (no surpise there) about the volume of users during peak times. IMO, this is reflective of AC's approach to many developments in the area. I suspect they've run their "models" but not one lazy bureaucrat has shifted a backside and actually gone to observe this facility. If their development doesn't match users' needs, just wait for attrition to whittle down the numbers, i.e., people stop going to the park because there is not enough parking and AC can then claim that the need doesn't exist. As always, AC has chosen to make things more difficult for the rate payers and tax payers who fund these facilities. SHAME on Auckland Council for being obtuse and officious instead of put effort into fulfilling their mandate, which is to deliver services that meet...
Read moreA Hidden Gem in Auckland – Meola Reef Rocks!
Meola Reef is one of those places that feels like a well-kept local secret. Whether you're going for a peaceful walk, bringing your furry friend to the dog park, or just taking in the views of the Waitematā Harbour, this spot has something special.
The volcanic rock formations are fascinating and give the place a raw, natural feel you won’t find in many city parks. The walking track is flat and easy to navigate, perfect for a casual stroll or a morning jog. The open field is great for families, and the off-leash dog area is a total hit with our pup – loads of space to run, sniff, and make new four-legged friends.
You also get a unique vantage point of Auckland’s skyline from the end of the reef. If you're into photography or just love a good sunset, it’s absolutely worth the visit.
It’s not flashy – no playgrounds or cafes – but what it offers is a slice of nature and calm that’s hard to come by in a busy city. Meola Reef is a reminder that sometimes the simplest places can be the...
Read moreThis the worst dog park I’ve ever been to. The parking is a joke don’t even bother if you drive a low car. The “disabled” parks were taken by cars with no mobility sign and someone parked behind me so I couldn’t even leave until they left. Then to get to the “off-leash” area, you have to walk your dog on a lead which is completely pointless. And when you get there? It’s nothing but a tiny, bare patch of grass. That’s it. I could’ve saved myself the 20 minute drive and just tossed a stick around my own backyard for a better experience.
The people were the worst part. Unfriendly, stuck up and downright rude.
One owner told me my dogs had to stay on leads because they’re not pedigrees, while their precious purebreds ran around free. Another went off at me when their dog ran up to mine to play. This place is full of entitled, miserable owners who clearly don’t want anyone else there.
I literally drove 20 minutes to check this place out and honestly regret wasting my time. Definitely not...
