Tokos Tacos — Attraction in Whau

Authentic mix of Mexican and Kiwi style. Welcomed by the owners and asked their recommendations of food and drink. We ordered: their signature tacos and famous Fish tacos and Mangorita. Siganture tacos: it was packed with their slow cooked beef, melted cheese, onions, coriander, lemon wedge. Hot sauce and signature dipping broth. I love my corriander, i should have asked for more, the slow cooked beef overfilled my taco and could only taste a little corriander, onions and cheese. The taco was slightly smaller then expected but works out with the price and overfilled slow cooked beef The lemon wedge squeezed, dipping broth and hot sauce drizzled on top complimented the taco and enhanced the taste and made the difference. 4/5 Fish Tacos: Very similar to my beef tacos, but with fish. All the elements complimented the fish taco, if you like seafood you will seriously love the fish tacos. 5/5 Mangorito: Amazing refreshing mango drink, which complimented all the tacos especially on a hot day. 5/5 Got to talk with owners and their story. Tiktok bought me to this awesome location. Here from Australia after watching review videos on social media and I knew I wasn't going back to auz until I had eaten from this place😂 My family and I had the best experience eating Tokos tacos for the first time lastnight. From point of entry, we were greeted with smiles and I spoke with the owner, being our first time, he was very helpful and friendly explaining our choices. So we bought a whole bunch of options to try. We got home and of course had to quickly do a video for social media purposes before eating🤭 we bought Barilla tacos, Fish tacos, Mulitas, Elote, koko flan, Mangorita & Margarita drinks. Without a lie, it was the BEST EXPERIENCE we've had. Tacos were fresh, crispy, tasty and delicious. Dip into the juice, you just teleport to another place 🤤 Dessert Koko Flan was a good finish to our meal. Soooo good. We loved the drinks as well. Margaritas on point. Could not fault anything. Thank you to the owner and the friendly staff working that night. Your efforts did not go unnoticed and money well spent. What a night. Highly recommend....

The definition of a hidden gem, and a breath of fresh air in a city that's sorely lacking good Mexican food.

The staff are unusually helpful and talkative, guiding you through the process of how to eat the tacos, which involves two types of sauce and fresh lemon.

This is easily the best taco I know of that's currently being sold in Auckland. You can taste the freshness of the corn tortilla. The beef and pork in the Birria is cooked to perfection. This alone would make for a very good taco, but the combination of the fresh salsa and toko signature sauce pushes it to a new level.

It's a bit of a shame that this place is Avondale, as it's not particulaly convenient for me. However, it's well worth the trip. It's great to see people who are so passionate about their food business. Auckland food has become a bit over-priced and soulless since the problems that Covid has brought with it. Tokos Tacos are genuinely aiming to do something excellent and they're succeeding at it.
