The cathedral is a double-nave basilica that has a free-standing bell tower next to the main building. The cathedral seats about 1000 people. The church building is shaped like a long "basilica", but with a central aisle and another on the north side, but not on the south side. The entrance consists of two copper-clad doors surrounded by fields in natural concrete under a Gable roof. Más que catedral (tiene esa categoria desde 1983), por su tamaño (65 × 25), es una iglesia de planta rectangular, diseño moderno y decoración simple construida entre 1953 y 1957 con diseño de Finn Bryn (ganador de un concurso de arquitectos). Tiene una capacidad para más de 1.000 personas dispone de 900 asientos.
Anteriorme a la actual, existieron otras tres edificaciones: la primera de madera y planta de cruz (1661-1841) fue derribada; la segunda muy similar (1842-1885) fue incendiada; la tercera también de madera (1887-1945) se incendió tras sufrir un bombardeo durante la II Guerra Mundial, salvandose sólo un retablo y una cruz de madera.
La torre, con reloj y 26 campanas es un edificio independiente que aún se conserva.
