Observatory hill is situated at one end of the Mall of Darjeeling, lovingly called the Queen of the Hills. The Observatory hill is famous for some up-end hotels and some good view points, but the most important spot there is a temple complex, the most popular of which is the Mahakal temple which is a superb example of religious harmony. There are two paths to climb the Observatory Hill - one is a lengthier motorable road on the northern side of the hill, the other a shorter but rather steep path for the pedestrians on the eastern side of the hill. The temples: 1. Mahakal temple : As told above, this is the most important temple here, dedicated to Lord Mahakal (a manifestation of Lord Shiva) as well as a manifestation of Lord Buddha. In the sanctum there is the deity Mahakal, three brass covered Lingam representing Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar, and a statue of Lord Buddha. Interestingly, there are two sets of priests, one Hindu and the other Buddhist, and it is a custom to be followed by the devotees to offer Puja to Lord Buddha first. There are colourful flags all over the place, and the Buddhist Prayer Wheel. In front of the temple, there is a statue of Mandi the Bull, the Vahana of Lord Shiva. 2. Ganesha temple : There is a small temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha just in front of the main temple. 3. Durga temple. 4. Mahakali temple. 5. Kirateshwar Shiva temple. 6. Mahakal cave which is the abode of "Saat Kanya" (Seven Daughters - actually Sapta Matrika or Seven Mothers) and Mahakal Shiva. 7. A temple dedicated to Sai Baba. 8. A temple dedicated to Lord Hanumana. The hill offers some beautiful view points from where excellent views of the surrounding and the majestic Kanchenjunga, the 3rd highest peak in the world. In fact, the Kanchenjunga range is dubbed "The Sleeping Buddha", as the range extending from Mount Kabru South to Mount Pandim looks like as if a huge man is reclining in the supine position.

One of the most romantic point in the Queen of hills, Darjeeling. Starting from the right side road from Darjeeling mall after some shop in the left side of the road ( these shops are reducing the beauty of the road) and a road which have gone to Mahakal temple u will meet a view point. Kanchenjunga does not seen from that view point. The second view point is very nice. But Kanchenjunga seen from here partly. From the third view point full range of Kanchenjunga seen from here. After that there is Governor's house of the state West Bengal. From there the mall road turns left towards Bhanu Bhakta bhawan. After crossing it u will meet the Mall again. Actually it's a circular road. During sunrise and in the afternoon u can see beautiful snow capped Kanchenjunga from observatory hills view point.

Observatory Hill View Point in Darjeeling offers a truly awe-inspiring experience. On a clear day, the panoramic view of the majestic Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, is simply breathtaking. The sight of snow-capped mountains stretching into the horizon is a sight to behold. The viewpoint is well-maintained, with clean surroundings and informative signage. It's a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers to capture stunning vistas. However, it's important to note that the weather can be unpredictable in the hills, so it's advisable to check the forecast before planning your visit. If you're visiting Darjeeling, a trip to Observatory Hill is a must. The mesmerizing view of the Himalayas is a sight that will stay with you forever.

Awesome šš Kanchanjanga view of darjeeling... Probably the best and most peaceful place to sit back and relax and have a look at the magnificent Kanchenjunga range of mountains. It is just a 5 min walk away from the main Mall road square. The view is enchanting and uninterrupted. Most of us living in cities have rarely have the luck to look at an uninterrupted view of our surrounding and to look the the horizon which only ends at the view of the mountains. You can get some really good coffee here at Rs.25 per cup.Public use gymnasium structures are built here on the pavement like pull up bars, parallel bars, a tire for flipping and loops for push ups, etc. This is an ideal place to relax in the early morning while a morning walk or a quick workout.
