Monument of Nicolaus Copernicus — Attraction in Olsztyn

Der berühmte Astronom Nikolaus Kopernikus wurde am 19. Februar 1473 in Thorn geboren und verstarb am 24. Mai 1543 in Frauenburg (Ermland). Beim Rundgang durch die Stadt Olsztyn (dt. Allenstein) trifft man heute im Bereich der Burg u.a. auf die sitzende Skulptur und auch auf eine weitere Büste des Wissenschaftlers, der u.a. auch als Domherr, Arzt und Jurist tätig war. Um das Jahr 1520 lebte Kopernikus in Allenstein und organisierte u.a. die Verteidigung der Stadt im Reiterkrieg. Wygląda jak żywy i znajduje się w Olsztynie na Starym Mieście, u zbiegu ulic Okopowej i Zamkowej, w pobliżu kościoła ewangelicko-augsburskiego. Została odsłonięta w październiku 2003, w ramach obchodów 650-lecia nadania Olsztynowi praw miejskich i 530-lecia urodzin Mikołaja Kopernika.

Autorką pomnika jest olsztyńska rzeźbiarka Urszula Szmyt. Pomnik wykonano w Centrum Rzeźby Polskiej w Orońsku. Astronom siedzi na ceglanym murku przykrytym marmurową płytą. Ubrany jest w długi płaszcz z futrzanym kołnierzem i półdługimi rękawami. W dłoniach trzyma astrolabium i...
