It was supposed to be a good day but the restaurant experience spoiled it... This place was recommended by my best friend in Portugal thus I really trusted him. The start was promising- several tables occupied by families with small children (same as ours). The first issue appeared that the waiter was taking orders with a dead face and without taking any notes. Long wait... (10+ minutes for the first drinks, missing wine but bringing extra orange juice). Later, 30+ minutes the first dishes appear - semi cold cod fish fillet from oven 😧... it costs eighteen euros but was already cold!!! Two portions! Taste is below average- super salty, very dry fish fillet tasting like old fillet sitting in your fridge for ages, spinach not edible, boiled potatoes too salty as well. The waiter appeared after 10+ minutes asking if everything is fine, then he was reminded about missing wine. Dead face, no apologies. The bill was huge for this average food, I regret bringing my family here. Avoid this place unless you're thinking about divorce during/after your vacation as you'll spend a lot of money for a really bad food. p.s. I give 1* for places where I get food poisoning, this time I was lucky enough not to get one.

This is a very traditional Évora restaurant. All the dishes have Alentejo characteristics, especially the Rabo de boi (oxtail) is the best I have eaten in Portugal. It is cooked with red wine, but without alcohol. It is very delicious and must be tasted. There is also a special cellar for storing red wine, and it is very professionally equipped with a constant temperature box to store some wine. The waiter is very enthusiastic and will come to ask us how we eat, how we feel, and if there are any problems. This is my second time in this restaurant. Almost all the dishes will not be a problem so you can choose with confidence. Compared with other local restaurants, this one is more traditional.

The good: food was excellent, service was on point, restaurant was spacious. We had the ox tail, the rib steak and the hunter sausage. All three were cooked perfectly, ox tail was falling off the bone and melting in your mouth. Sausage was slightly smoked, made off gane meat. Ribsteak was seasoned priperly and our doneness was spot on. Service is high end, no dishes thrown around or loud servers here. Tourist catch: There will be a spread of appetizers on the table... Ask for pricing if you dont want to pay the equivalent of your meal in appies. They call this "couvert" and you pay for everything. Caveat emptor , this is not on them it's on you. :)

We had dinner at this place last night and it was one of the worst experiences in Evora, Portugal, the person that seems to run the place (a very heavy-set complexion) has the worst attitude and lacks manners, he things he is doing a favor to the patrons. Without asking they delivered 3 appetizers that they automatically added to the bill, the rabbit was terrible, I brought this to the attention of one of the waitresses and she just shroud her shoulders. We ordered our main courses and the Pepper tenderloin was uncooked inside, so we had to return it, the Cod with spinach au gratin was poorly plated that it was not appealing it looked like lump of green something.

The two waitresses were hiding behind the cashier chatting away ignoring patrons and more interested in getting a shoulder massage from one of male servers.

There are not many restaurants in Evora so perhaps that is why their service is so terrible as result of not having competition, the only positive during this meal was the wine.

This place is overrated, we have been travelling through Portugal and had great experiences, attentive service and great meals but this Café Alentejo was a disaster, shame on them. There are a few options in Evora worth exploring. Enjoyed this...

I looked at the reviews and just had to go. All I can say is we are here in January and of course is the off-season so service was no issue. In fact our waiter Eduardo was a fantastic professional waiter who has been in the business for years. Of course he recommended the top three items which are ox tail stew, Pork cheeks and cod fish. We had the oxtail and pork Cheeks. Some of the very best I’ve had. Yes they charged us for bread and some small plate tapas but that is the name of the game here and they were all wonderful to have. In addition Edoardo gave us a great recommendation on a bottle of wine that was moderately priced and local to the region. This dinner for two was €47 which I think was very fair. I suggest you go but can’t say How busy it might get in the peak season. Please excuse my voice to text errors. And if you receive good service like I did I think a good tip such as 10% is much appreciated and deserved but that...
