This restaurant is so below average I’m not sure why they have so many positive reviews. The staff are rude and certainly not as polite as one would expect in such a restaurant. We arrived for lunch and were told that there were not tables available apart from some high bar tables which we were initially offered. These were less shaded than the covered terrace. When we were seated, we were then ignored for the next hour regardless of the fact that we would be ordering from the same menu as those seated in the restaurant terrace area, and not cheap for Portigal to be honest. Eventually we managed to grab a waiter a attention, but the indifference he showed to us was astonishing. He made us feel embarrassed that we had asked for his help telling us that he was the bar waiter and not the restaurant waiter, even though 10 minutes later he was bringing food to the table close by. When finally the food arrived the Octipus salad wasn’t cooked enough and rubbery with an odd dressing and the Chicken Salad my partner ordered was literally something that came off the salad counter in Continente. Please do your research carefully. We are English who actually live some of the time in Lisbon and this place is below average, we anticipate that most of the reviews are not accurate...

UPDATE - July 20

We gave it another shot and the food didn't disappoint just like we thought it wouldn't. Conclusion....it was our waitress, not the establishment itself. Terrible service from the original waitress, great service from the 2nd.

Original post - July 19

While this place came highly recommended from our hotel, unfortunately the service was terrible. Our order got 'lost' other than our initial drinks. While I can appreciate patience for waiting for our order, had we not asked why the wait was so long, we would have never known. Moreover, the wait staff didn't inform us. They even asked us if we were ready to order ...when we advised that we did, it was met with 'oh...let me go check for you' which in essence meant nothing.

When we asked again as to the wait, it was finally revealed that it was 'lost' and never placed. We cancelled everything, paid for our drinks (even though they offered to compensate us) and left hungrier than when we arrived.

Very disappointed and saddened by what we were sure could have been...

We visited the bar two days in a row. First day we had some beers, amarguinha, french fries and so on while playing rummykub. Spent hours just talking, playing and having a good time. We were not noisy, nobody was drunk (one of us is a pregnant woman!). The guys were so nice, so we decided to come again. Next day after we ordered our first amarguinhas we were ready to start playing again. But a different guy came to our table and forbid us to play because “games are not allowed in this place”. We tried to explain him we did exactly the same just the night before but he refused not very friendly. He wasn't very nice, to say the least. Apparently rummy must be such a noisy and bothering activity. We just don’t understand. So… maybe a good place depending on which staff you’ll find the day you’ll come. This guy just kind of...

Our waiter Fernando was excellent. He suggested a wine that was superb and gave us the history of local region where it was from. Also not the most expensive wine on the menu. Eight of us we’re seated at 3:00 and the attention given to us was fantastic. We had an assortment of tapas and entrees all which were delicious. The chickpeas with cod was delicious as well as the pork bowl tenderloin, chicken salad, and prawns. The house ice tea was crazy good. We ended our meal with another suggestion from our waiter for a traditional dessert and it was awesome. Would definitely recommend.

Quaint little place hidden behind a short walk into an opening in the walls, this pub is an excellent place to sit back and have a few drinks on a hot day. Serving small plates of cold snacks (because we went during an off-hour to watch the World Cup) along with reasonably priced alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, the pub is staffed with friendly waiters who are able to speak English really well. Although we didn't get the chance to try the main dishes, I can vouch for its atmospheric ambeince. If you're ever in town and just want a cool place to chill down, Páteo is the place to be!

The environment is very good. The restaurant is in a yard with many fruit trees, like a small manor. Although it may be the most expensive restaurant in the Évora area, it only costs about 20-30euros per person. The food is very good, with local characteristics of Évora, but more modern food. I often come to Évora for work and always come to this restaurant. My colleagues also like this restaurant very much. Its taste is suitable for everyone. I recommend pork cheek, black pork and lamb, egg custard. If it is summer, you need to book a table in advance.
