Mr. Pickwick — Restaurant in Évora

My wife and I, visited this restaurant, by chance, on day 3, in a trip around in the middle of Portugal, but it turned out to be one of the best places we have ever visited, when comes to food, drink and service. A rather small place inside, but the very serviceminded and funny waiter, told us there would be a free table within 5 minutes. This waiter is worth the visit alone. A good observer, intelligent, extremely straight forward and funny. It looked like a happy family owned place. The father sitting in the corner, and by observing, made sure everything was fine. His wife is a cook that we, and several others applauded. She could really improvise and was tested by us, because my wife has a Gluten and Milk-intoleranse. At this place, this was never a problem, just a challenge they were happy do. The starters were good, the main courses were fantastic. My wife had a hot pan of pig and prawns, and I had a pepper steak, which is usually not well done in Portugal, but this was brilliant, the best I've ever tasted in my 9 years visiting this very nice country. My husband and our friends had a delicious dinner at Mr. Pickwick this evening. Each of us had selected different dishes and each of us were very happy with our selections. I don’t remember the specific names but my husband had pork with honey and red wine, I had cod with shrimp, our friends had pork cheeks and another type of pork dish without honey and red wine but I don’t know which one that was. Oh my goodness! Each dish was just perfect! I can say my cod dish was the most flavorful fish dish I have had in my life! Yummy! My husband and friends were so happy that we chose to eat at Mr . Pickwick. You will definitely be happy if you choose to eat there. Our waiter Gonzales (spelling) was delightful, attentive, and provided great wine recommendations. The service was top-notch! Our server/owner, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendation and give attention to detail and genuine care for our dining experience shone through.

But the real star of the show was the food - OH. MY. GOODNESS! Every dish we ordered was a masterpiece. Flavors were bold, presentation was stunning, and each bite was a delight. The sardines Asadas was a standout favorite, with tender, juicy flavors that melted in our mouths and the server help us to eat it in a way that we would get the most out of it.
