A ermida encontra-se em um local com vestígios de presença humana desde o Paleolítico Superior. A sua construção, datada do século XIII, é atribuída aos cavaleiros da Ordem dos Templários. Ao longo dos séculos terá sido alvo de várias reconstruções e alterações da sua estrutura, nomeadamente durante o século XV, e no século XVI, por volta de 1531 devido a um terremoto. Em 1819 a ermida foi escolhida para ser o Lazareto da vila devido a uma peste que alastrava em Espanha. Em 1907 foi alvo de obras que a descaracterizaram fortemente relativamente ao seu traçado original.

Uma igreja que me diz muito, pois fiz primeira comunhão, e grandes actividades aqui como escuteiro. Era o agrupamento 954 do corpo de escutas. A beleza desta igreja é enorme. Vale a pena a visita.

Unusual church architecture like a Disney concoction, only genuine! Opening hours are peculiar so I couldn't get in. I jumped the low fence to enter the grounds and hang out in the peaceful wild abandoned garden....

A Ermida de São Brás, localiza-se na freguesia de Matriz, Ponta Delgada. Sucedeu à primitiva Ermida de São Brás, onde veio a ser edificada a fortaleza de Ponta Delgada. O primitivo templo, então demolido, foi reerguido em 1584. O templo evoca igualmente Santa Luzia uma vez que possui uma Capela com esta Santa. Sempre que os bispos da Diocese de Angra ou seus representantes vinham à cidade, vusitavam este templo.
