We would not recommend that anyone book a room at Hotel Faro & Beach Club, located in Portugal. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU READ OUR REVIEW BEFORE EVEN THINKING OF BOOKING A ROOM AT HOTEL FARO! Do so at your own risk! When we arrived, our suspicions were immediately alerted when we were told that full payment was required up front for both nights. Of all the hotels we had booked during our trip to Portugal, this was the ONLY hotel that required payment in full upon arrival. We wondered why and if there was a reason for this policy, but complied (what choice did we have given we had already arrived and had no other available choices). Well, it wouldn’t be long before we found out the answer to that question…keep reading and bear in mind that this hotel puts itself out there as a luxury destination and that the price for our room was just under $500 for two nights! On the morning after our second night, we awoke with ants all over us in our bed, in our luggage, and all over the walls and furniture. It was disgusting, to say the least! Our first reaction after jumping out of bed was to immediately call the front desk for assistance. The person at the front desk advised that “housekeeping” would be sent (to apparently clean the ants??)! Apparently, this hotel believes that cleaning an infestation is the best way to handle these situations versus actually hiring and paying for an exterminator to address the problem! Meanwhile, nothing was done to assist us, we were left in the room with the ants! We did some checking around the room to understand where the ants had come from and discovered a moldy looking hole just beneath the window in our room, beneath the window curtain. Ants were streaming in and it was clear, given the moldy hole, that the hotel had known, or should have known, about this situation! Gee, wonder why they insisted on full payment in advance! On the morning that we should have been enjoying our final hours in Faro, we instead had to unpack all our luggage to remove all the ants and so that we could leave the hotel ant free. It was truly a nightmare for us. To make matters worse, housekeeping never even came by, and so I was forced to call the front desk again to complain! I was promptly given the excuse that the “ant problem” was not a hotel concern, but rather a problem that the City of Faro had whenever it rained. We could not believe it that the hotel was actually blaming its own city for its ant problem….given the moldy hole in the wall next to the window, how is it that the city was to blame? Also, given the response to send housekeeping to apparently “clean” the ants instead of an exterminator, it’s no wonder to us that the problem persists in this hotel. Bottom line is that this hotel is not worth booking, certainly not worth the high rate it charges. To make matters worse, requiring payment upfront upon checkin is a deceptive practice so that they can keep all of your money, and maintain the upper hand in a complaint situation should the “City’s” ant problem occur during your stay! While we really enjoyed our stay in all other parts of Portugal, which included Lisbon, Sintra, Porto, Guarda, Chavez, Evora, and Setabul, we highly recommend booking a different hotel if your visit includes the City of Faro, or better yet, perhaps just not visit Faro at all since apparently Hotel Faro claims that it’s city has infestation issues in general!

A bad start turned out well. We came on a Jet2 city break at a bargain price but we arrived for check-in at 4 a.m. (12 hours late) after our plane was struck by lightning on the approach and diverted to Malaga, Spain from where we were brought by bus to Faro airport where there were no taxis as no flights were expected. We rang the hotel and asked if they could arrange a taxi. A poor line led to a misunderstanding as we didn't hear back that they had been successful. So, 30 mins later when another taxi did arrive at the airport we got it. The older man on reception was not pleased that we hadn't waited longer for his booking. I apologised but then he said our room was a 'no show' (it was booked by the airline and they didn't notify the hotel that we and several other guests would be late). He took a while to find us another, although we were the first to arrive. It had no marina view but by then we were past caring. In the morning my wife blamed me for splashing the shower all over the bathroom floor until we realised that we had a plumbing leak. This time the young lady receptionist was much more helpful and we were soon in a new room - with a view! We had paid for an upgraded room but I can't see what you get for it except the option to ask for a tea/coffee machine (and maybe a view if you are lucky). Note that the coffee pods provided are free but you pay for extras. The breakfast is a very good buffet with plenty of Portuguese items. The same restaurant is highly rated for evening meals but the only day we wanted to book they had a corporate function so we didn't bother. The terrace outside the bar restaurant has stunning views but the storm restricted our access. The room service is efficient. The location is about as central as you can get. Very handy for rail and bus, marina, ferries and the old town. We had a great time. I would use it again.

You can’t beat this hotel for it’s location - right on the waterfront with all the main sights a few moments walk away and plenty of restaurant / bar options on the doorstep. The staff were friendly during the check in process with all the communal areas being peaceful and welcoming. My room was on the second floor and the entry level category. The first thing which hits is the excessive heat - unfortunately the air-conditioning switches off when the key card is removed so in the hot weather it takes a few minutes each time you return to get it to be bearable. Otherwise it was a somewhat basic, but functional and comfortable room. Electric sockets plus lights next to the bed, the TV was a good size, coffee machine welcome and adequate storage for a single night stay. The small balcony was a nice touch although shame it had no view. The bathroom was a good enough size and perfectly clean, with decent toiletries provided. The rooftop bar and restaurant is a great addition. Catching the sunset views outside with a cold drink is perfect, with a range of seating options for how relaxing you want to get. The restaurant indoors has some great staff, who are really helpful with the menu and able to recommend items and matching drinks, all of which was perfect. The starter of clams was sizeable and the fillet steak main cooked well, plus decent sized prawn for the ‘surf’. Cheesecake desert was presented well and with the reasonably priced yet delicious wine rounded things off well. I’d certainly considering staying here again and if you’re not wanting to spend ages of time in your room then I’d recommend.

The hotel has an excellent location, with a stunning view and a perfect rooftop to enjoy drinks or breakfast. My husband and I stayed in the Superior Premium room. From what I gathered, they only have twin beds rather than double beds, meaning the beds are pushed together, which is a downside. I dislike the gap left between the beds, as it makes sleeping uncomfortable. Additionally, we noticed a strange plumbing noise in our room, likely from the room above. The noise was quite loud when someone took a shower or flushed the toilet, and it even woke up my husband a few times, though we eventually got used to it. The bathroom is stylish, comfortable, and accessible, with an amazing shower. Housekeeping does a great job, keeping everything clean and replenishing the bathroom amenities (which are from Rituals – a brand I love!). The gym is small but has all the essentials, with modern and well-functioning equipment. The front desk staff is very attentive and helpful, always willing to assist with anything you need, and the restaurant staff is just as friendly. Breakfast is delicious, offering a variety of foods to suit different tastes. However, they don’t label items with gluten or dairy, which made it challenging for me to identify safe options due to my intolerance. The prices in the hotel are ok (very similar to Ireland). Overall, the hotel is cozy, clean, and calm – a lovely place to stay!

This hotel is an expensive joke, I don't know where to even begin. Our room doesn't have any cupboards at all to store clothes. It has black mold on the shower ceiling, and the shower doesn't drain properly. They give you the thinnest, cheapest toilet paper. It has an aircon unit that is so loud you can't keep it on at night and there is no way to change settings. No coffee or tea or kettle. Our mattresses feel old and the pillows are bad. When getting back from the beach at 3pm they hadn't serviced our "higher end" family room so there were no towels or shampoo etc to use. The rooftop bar has an amazing view yet has the slowest and most inattentive wait staff I've experienced in Portugal. The pool is small and murky and the sun beds don't have any parasols or shade whatsoever, and you're not allowed to sit on the rest of the rooftop which is in the shade with your pool clothes. The breakfast and restaurant food was nice, which are the only redeeming features here. Would absolutely not recommend. To conclude: this does not at all give you the experience or service of any other 4-star hotel.

The hotel is not 4 stars, unfortunately. There are many small issues which mount up. Positive: – The staff are professional and courteous, which makes a notable difference throughout your stay. – Breakfast was nice and plentiful. – Roof-top bar has incredible sunset views. Negatives: – “High speed internet” supports speeds of no more than 10Mbps, and sometimes much less. Practically this means even finding somewhere to eat is difficult. It was very infuriating. – Slow food service if ordering snacks from the kitchen, etc. - A bit misleading to claim they have a beach bar. It’s 9km away with a 45 minute transfer. – I had to double check on my booking that I got a superior room as it was very basic. No kettle, tea, or milk in the room, only a coffee machine and complementary bottled water. – Cleanliness was an issue. Stained curtains and bed sheets, dusty bathroom, dirt on the tiles, and bad odour – Throughout the hotel, there were many things which were broken or poorly maintained.
