The museum offers a fascinating insight into the history and culture of the Douro Valley, a region renowned for its wine production. The exhibits are well-curated, providing a comprehensive overview of the region’s wine-making heritage, the evolution of viticulture, and the significance of the Douro River. The displays are informative and engaging, making it easy for visitors of all ages to appreciate the rich history and cultural importance of this unique area. One of the highlights of the visit was the wine tasting at the end. Tasting a glass of exquisite port wine in such an authentic setting added a delightful touch to the overall experience. It was a perfect way to conclude the visit, allowing us to savor the flavors of the region we had just learned so much about. Overall, the Douro Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in Portuguese culture, history, or wine. It provides an immersive and enjoyable experience that leaves a lasting impression. Highly...
Read morePlease note; I visited this place with a large group and we had pre booked lunch and a guided tour there so I don’t know how it may relate to a ‘regular’ museum visit. Super interesting place and the tour guide we had (it was a group booked trip) was honestly fantastic, he was funny and really knowledgeable and had a local link with the wine making so it was really interesting to hear it from his point of view. The port tasting we had was also great, and the staff in general were friendly and welcoming. It was also so lovely to see some artwork from a local painter who had recently died and left her works to the museum. I would definitely come back here. Also there...
Read moreThis is not a big museum, but we really enjoyed our visit. The building has been beautifully renovated and is on several levels. There are not a huge amount of exhibits but everything is in English as well as Portuguese. There are lots of little video screens throughout which really paint the picture of the local industry, including the building and sailing of rabelos which carried the wine to mmmn Porto before the advent of the railway. Fascinating story and we found the staff very friendly and helpful. €6.00 per person entry and includes a nice glass of...
