Mercado da Graça in Ponta Delgada is a place that embodies the very essence of the Azores. It's a culinary treasure trove where the best of the island's flavors and the warmth of its people come together in perfect harmony. From the moment you step foot into this vibrant market, you are welcomed with open arms and treated like a long-lost friend.

One of the greatest delights of Mercado da Graça is the exceptional service that accompanies the fresh, local produce. The vendors go above and beyond to ensure that each customer feels special and appreciated. In fact, they are known for their genuine kindness and attentiveness. It's not uncommon to receive a gift, like a succulent pineapple, simply for purchasing a couple of tomatoes and garlic. Their generosity and warmth create an atmosphere that is truly heartwarming.

As you wander through the market, you'll be captivated by the abundance of high-quality products. The fruits and vegetables are bursting with flavor, harvested at their peak of ripeness. The fishmonger's stall showcases the freshest catch of the day, with fish so recently plucked from the sea that they still carry the essence of the early morning fishing trip. To experience the full selection, it's advisable to arrive early, as the most sought-after options tend to disappear quickly. But fear not, even if you miss out on the freshest catches, you'll still find an array of delicious options for a mouthwatering meal.

The butchers at Mercado da Graça are true masters of their craft, skillfully preparing meats that are rich in flavor and texture. They take pride in offering only the finest cuts, ensuring that each bite is a delectable experience. And for those with green thumbs or a desire to create their own garden oasis, the market also offers an impressive selection of plants, seeds, and bulbs to cultivate your own personal paradise.

Beyond the exceptional products, the ambiance of Mercado da Graça is simply enchanting. It's a place where locals and visitors alike come together, sharing stories and laughter as they navigate the vibrant aisles. The sense of community is palpable, as people treat you like family from the moment they meet you. It's easy to make lifelong friends here, as everyone is eager to offer advice on anything and everything you may need or desire. The connections forged within the market's bustling atmosphere are simply extraordinary.

In fact, Mercado da Graça has a way of casting a spell on you. It evokes a sense of longing, a desire to leave everything behind and immerse yourself fully in the island's embrace. The thought of staying on this beautiful island forever becomes alluring and tempting. And why not? With the warmth of the people, the incredible flavors, and the vibrant market culture, it's easy to envision a life filled with the simple joys and enchantment that Ponta Delgada has to offer.

So, whether you're a local seeking the freshest ingredients or a traveler looking to immerse yourself in the heart of the Azores, Mercado da Graça beckons you with open arms. It's a place where flavors come alive, friendships are forged, and the magic of Ponta Delgada is celebrated. Step into this lively market, and let yourself be swept away by its beauty, charm, and irresistible allure. Who knows, you may just find yourself enchanted enough to stay and call this island paradise your...

We have a small farm and vineyard in the Açores and we are beginning to produce the regional wine and grape juice. While we are struggling to learn Portuguese, it can be difficult to get samples to local folks, but Sr. João and Sr. André Leonardo who run the office were outstanding in helping us in setting up a table in the market.

Whole I have enjoyed shopping here fir great local produce and products, I will say being a vendor here was even better! Other farmers and vendors went out of their way to make us feel welcome and offer assistance! Some of the warmest welcome I have experienced on the island, and you won't find better produce! Yummy!

Be aware that the market is located in the downstairs area, because like everyone here, rennocations have beenlong and delayed. Still very much worth the...

It feels like it has been under renovation for years and still not finished, so it’s not very nice and authentic. Some merchants look at you as if you were bothering them as a non-local. Aside from this, there’s a good choice of different meats, fishes, fruits, vegetables, and other local products. You have to go downstairs to get the fruits and vegetables spot. Check the origin of products, as there are some imports, even for pineapples : I saw some pineapples from Costa Rica for example which are way cheaper but can’t compare in terms of taste. Make sure to get some passion...

Mercado da Graça is primarily a fruit and vegetable market with a variety of local produce. Despite its vibrant atmosphere, the market's location in a parking area can feel somewhat strange and detract from the experience. While it offers a glimpse into local life and the opportunity to purchase fresh, regional products, it might not be worth prioritizing if your time is limited. The setting lacks the charm of more traditional markets. It's an interesting stop but not essential for your itinerary.

The farmers market seems to be in a repurposed carpark, but none the worse for that. Clear signs direct you from the road. I suspect that visiting towards the end of the market on a Saturday just after noon, we didn't see it at it's best. Still lots of beautiful fruit and vegetables, upstairs there are meats and fish of all kinds. Sadly as so often these days UK citizens can't bring anything thing like this home. Eat what you can when in country.
