A MUST SEE site if you like plants & animals, and have time to meander the pathways, this garden is pleasing even during Winter! Antonio Borges Botanical Garden (Part 1 of 2): Free Admission, delightful park with a heartwarming community feeling. From the 19th century, created by António Borges, an Azorean merchant and politician. Lava rock & basalt were used in the garden design to create fun grottoes, caves, bridges, interesting pathways, plenty of benches & growing environments. Today a surprise drama erupts. Antonio Borges Botanical Garden (Part 2 of 2): Free Admission, delightful park with a heartwarming community feeling. Today the park is a municipal heritage and the green lung of the city center. It portrays the romantic and picturesque spirit of the 19th century and is used for diverse community activities and a surprise drama resolves as volunteer city residents care for the animals who live within this charming garden.

It’s a city park with a free entrance. There is a cool cafe inside the park. It’s not a big park, but there are a lot of beautiful trees, plants and flowers to see. We were lucky to see baby ducks. There is a South African flower that looks like a tropical bird, it’s called the bird of paradise. One of the most amazing plants I’ve seen. And there are two giant Australian trees. The photos don’t do it justice. On the downside, there is a lot of garbage around the park and inside the many park caves. It didn’t look like the park was well taken care off.

In the heart of Ponta Delgada - a surprise, for us! We were early for the cave tour nearby and decided to spend a half hour wandering around the grounds. That small walk turned into an hour and a half visit, with a small lunch at the cafe embedded into the grounds, and a photo session for a lovely Portugese family at the massive ficus tree to the southeastern end of the park. For parents: there's a fair amount of trash stashed away in the corners of the basalt structures at the gardens, watch your kiddos!

Beautiful garden. I came here instead of paying a whopping 5€ at the botanical gardens near the presidential palace😑. I guess the president is short on money 🧐? Can't speak to what I missed, but I spent over an hour exploring all the caves and various paths in this lush and beautifully preserved park from the mid-1800s. Considering I was unknowingly stuck in the town during the public holiday on October 5, I found this to be a great respite.

This was a fantastic spot to slow our vacation down. It is FLAT! We had done a lot of difficult hiking, and this was a lovely location to wander around. It has free parking and free entrance. There is also a supermarket at the end of the block, which was very convenient. There is a really fabulous little Cafe inside with fantastic food that I highly recommend. Even if you don't want to walk around, eat at the Cafe!

Pretty nice outdoor green space for a light, afternoon stroll. There is a very impressive tree that is at the center of the park (no info on it though), and is a great IG spot… my fav is the bamboo groves that are scattered around which gives the park an extra zen vibe. There arent areas for picnics. This park is free to the public, although it is a little far on foot from the city centre of Ponta Delgada.
