Casino de Monte Gordo — Attraction in Vila Real de Santo António

If you’re a fan of slot machines, this casino will suit you well. However, my friends and I were more interested in playing live blackjack and roulette. We were a group of 8 people (enough for 1–2 tables), but unfortunately, there were no croupiers available.

Although the casino opens at 15:00, we arrived around 20:00 and asked if we could play. We were told there weren’t enough players for blackjack—even though we were a full group. Strangely, as we were leaving, we saw several croupiers outside smoking.

Additionally, the security and some staff gave us intense stares, as if they expected us to try stealing a slot machine—not exactly a warm welcome.

That said, the casino does have some great points: drinks are reasonably priced (around €5–10), the slot machines are modern and well-maintained, the air conditioning works well, and the registration process for first-timers is fast and smooth. It’s also conveniently located near a beautiful beach, perfect for clearing your head...

We worked here years ago and couldn't wait to visit again, very unhelpful staff and when we asked if we could just see the salao oceana where we danced we were told it wasn't possible unless we paid to watch the show that had nearly finished! One tiny bar and nothing but machines! Monte gordo is lovely but I would not visit the casino again, so disappointing when the whole reason we visited was to see where we used to work ruined our nostalgic trip down memory lane. The worst thing is the inequality of the rules of play. We can book more than one seat. If the game players just move from the original place to relax for a while and someone wants to sit at your place, you should suggest them to play other positions rather than inviting the same player to leave the seat we are playing.
