My daughter and I went for a mini vacation to Kings Dominion, in Doswell Virginia to get away and let her experience the spot where my brothers and I went once a year for most of my childhood. Although it had changed quite a bit from when I'd went there last, 25 years ago, it was Kings Dominion just the same. I'd booked a 2 night stay at a local Comfort Inn (Amazing place for a Comfort Inn) and we spent 3 days total at Kings. The first day we got some walking in and checking things out and barely made it to the Soak City entrance when my daughter, now 5 years old, seen a small playground with a big bucket that dumps and begged me to go play. Being that's what I thought I was looking for I obliged, we both had a great time for the duration of the evening being it was about 100 degrees, it seemed to be the best place to be. Returned the next day, rode some rides, had some fun, made some memories then thunderstorm warning sent us back to our room. Day 3, Soak City shined like a diamond, this time it was a little chilly compared to the previous days, so we were able to enjoy some rides, and make our way a little easier through the park without feeling like a heat stroke was inevitable. At last, we made it back to Soak City, and of course she thought we were going to her little play area again, but I actually looked at the map and say the other areas considerably further back, and told her we weren't stopping there, and insisted we keep traveling to my surprise. Now she was pouting the entire way, poor girl, and was so busy with that she didn't notice the massive water play area with multiple slides, buckets, climbing obstacles, and just a massive Waterworld like she'd never seen before. So I stopped her and told her close her eyes, wrapped a towel around her head and guided her close. The smile on that girls face 😍 I'll tell you, I'd be hard pressed to say I don't think I've ever seen her that happy before. She played as long as she could before we had to head home, and she still hasn't stopped talking about it. As far as the park goes, if your within a reasonable driving range of Doswell and think you may be able to go more than once, I do suggest definitely getting a season pass. If you decide to get the pass, I suggest the food and drink passes as well. If you get the upgraded paper cup drink pass you can get drinks all day free pretty well as often as you need, and the food pass will allow a lunch at almost every restaurant within the park, as well as a dinner. All 3 passes paid for themselves after the 3rd day, so if your on a budget or plan to make multiple trips, bite the bullet and get the passes and you won't regret it. We do plan to go back down several times throughout the rest of the year, and I can guarantee Soak City is at the top of her priority list. Enjoy yourselves, and parents, no worries, they have plenty of loungers and huge umbrella spots you can chill and watch your kids from. Most chill time I think I ever had, was able to let her do her thing, keep my eye on her, and had my eyes backed up by about 40 or so lifeguards on duty so wasn't...
Read moreIt's okay. But they need a LOT more! I don't see any racing slides, no water coasters, no innovative new attractions. It's kinda boring and feels like every other water park. I see nothing unique to really set it apart. Like Aquatica does.
There arent a lot of good slides, the light blue one with the double down at the end was okay, but really really short... the older tube slides are fun, but all slides should be on slat water. Not half salt water half super chlorine water.
All of the body slide are pretty much the same. The tube slides are fun, but we need more variety. A few water coasters, a mat racing slide, and something custom or unique that isnt at every water park. That would really interest me, but you dont have anything unique in the water park. Not only that, the placement of the water park is bad.
I really wish King's Dominion would move the entire Waterpark behind Racer 75, and move the Waterpark entrance to the path between Twisted Timbers & Apple Zapple. It would take some work, but the long term payoff would be worth it. Hopefully KD management actually reads these reviews, because these...
Read moreMy kids enjoy soak city, though they are a bit younger and the amount of stuff for them to be able to do is a bit low. They enjoy the new splash house, but it is a shame they had to get rid of the old one. I feel my kids can sometimes lose interest with the splash house in an hour or two. The kiddie wave pool is so-so, again my kids lose interest somewhat quickly if they aren't making up their own games to keep them occupied. There aren't a ton of rides for younger kids in soak city, but they do enjoy the lazy river, and my older child who can ride some of the larger rides does enjoy those. The food is ridiculously over priced, and it can be hard to find shady seating at times. The main wave pool and changing areas can be down right filthy at times, but maybe that's to be expected. I still give it 4 stars because it is an addon to KD, I'd be much less enthused though if it was...
