We arrived late morning in order to celebrate my daughter's birthday. It was a hot day, no wind and after parking in the vast parking area, we took a walk through the gardens and buildings. The flora is beautiful, and gardens so well looked after, with plenty of pools and water features to make you feel cooler than it was. The Coffee Roastery was full of visitors and appeared to be very popular. We walked to the car museum, but unfortunately it was closed, so we made sure to leave our oily nose- and finger prints all over the glass as I stared at Magnum PIs Ferrari in the left corner of the building. We then meandered to the Millhouse Kitchen, in order to meet our 12h30 reservation commitment. Along the way I was sidetracked by the Art Curator gallery which had a very good balance of art pieces from the old masters and contemporary artists on display. I could have stayed longer, but my family has no patience for me and art, and they were hungry. At the Millhouse we met a very loud gentleman at the door who shouted a welcome to us, I did not know whether we were in trouble or whether this was a hearty hi-ho-let's-go kind of greeting, either way I smiled and shouted back 'happy new year'. We had a fantastic table! - outside under trees and umbrellas. We ordered pizzas, hamburgers, pasta, salads and a few other starters and lots of drinks - we did not have wine, only virgin mojitos and sparkling water. The food was excellent - across the board, except for one of the salads that had an egg on it, the poached egg was rock hard and there was no offer to have to re-done when we raised it with the waitress. Nonetheless, this did not ruin the experience at all - and based on the other excellent dishes we had, I can only imagine that the egg was an anomaly. I would highly recommend the restaurant. As we left the restaurant we were shouted at again by the gentleman - I think he really loves his work, the place would not be same without him and we will especially look out for him next time we are there and make sure that we have something appropriate to shout back. After the restaurant we went to Wedgewood where we were greeted by air-conditioning and lovely young ladies and gentlemen who freely offered tastings of nougat and other interesting chocolate covered nuts. We bought way to much nougat here. When we returned to the parking area, the parking machine swallowed my R100 note and did not validate the ticket, this was a real nuisance and required me to walk to the wine tasting area where a very friendly lady sorted it out with no questions asked - I can only imagine that the fancy parking machine has been problematic. Next time we will just pay at the wine tasting area to start with and not use the machines. Will I go back? -...

Read morePicturesque vineyard with lovely grounds and surroundings. Weekend market with live music is an added bonus. Service from Asipe was good, wasn't impressed by the wines, we took the premium tasting with 4 premium wines, 2 whites 2 reds and only the merlot was appealing to our palate.
The service and food in the cafe was also good. If not for the wind, we would have preferred to have had our brunch on the tables outside the cafe.
We also tried the craft brewery Abru in the motostudio adjacent to the market area. The light brew and the vibe was good and something that isn't associated with a location in vineyard.
There is a parking fee of 20 Zar per car which I find is strangely unique to only this vineyard (and I've visited many). But again, its owners discretion although I do not condone it.
There are two other vineyards in the vicinity, Vergelegen and Morgenster. I've not visited Morgenster but my overall experience in Vergelegen was way better than here.
Still, if you are in the area on the weekend's do try out this estate for a different experience that is a mix of everything i.e. market feel, live music, wine tasting, brewery in motor studio...
