I recently visited Northgate Ice Rink for the first time in almost six years. My last visit resulted in a broken arm, and at the time, the medical staff offered little to no assistance. However, that was a long time ago, and I decided to give the rink another chance. Upon arrival with my friends, we paid, entered, and proceeded to collect our skates. As per the usual process, we handed over our tickets and shoes. I was on an important business call at the time, but we had already provided everything necessary. Then, one of your staff members—a Black man in blue—gestured for my ticket again, despite the fact that I had already given it to him (which both my friends and another staff member witnessed). Instead of clarifying professionally, he sarcastically remarked, "Are you here to skate or be on the phone?" This was incredibly unprofessional. That call was with a major client, and being treated with such disrespect while handling business was unacceptable. The staff member continued with more sarcastic comments, making the interaction unnecessarily unpleasant. Later, after enjoying the rink (which I must say, was a great experience), we returned our skates around 10 PM. I greeted the same staff member politely, yet he responded in Zulu— a language I do not understand— in a tone that seemed far from welcoming. After looking at other Google reviews, it seems like this kind of poor customer service is a common occurrence, possibly involving the same staff member. If multiple visitors are experiencing the same issue, it raises serious concerns about how staff are trained to interact with customers. This was my first time back in years, and this experience left me wondering how other customers are treated daily. While I love the rink itself, the unprofessional behavior from some staff members seriously tainted the visit. I sincerely hope management addresses this issue to ensure a more welcoming environment for all guests. One more thing if I might add, the toilets are incredibly disgusting and not...
Read moreWe had a great outing to Northgate Ice Rink with family and friends! I really do reccomend it!
NB! (TAKE JACKETS and a pair of Socks if you intend on skating- IT'S COLD INSIDE!)
We celeberated my daughters birthday and booked two tables in advance, with table cloths (additional cost) and Party packs (Additional cost) to be supllied by the venue. We brought the rest, including Cake, sweets and food platters! We arrived about 20mins earlier than our designated time-slot to set-up and prepare for our party guests!
It was a great fun and both young and old, that were prepared to venture onto the ice - had a great time!!! Albeit, slipping, sliding and falling sometimes! And we had no casulties, fortunately :)
If you book in advance, you will be issued with tickets upon arrival, based on the number of guests you've paid for! What you will need to pay for additionally, are the ice penguins (R75 each non-refundable) which act as a support for the children learning to skate. And of course for Socks if you didn't bring any with (R25 pair - you get to keep these).
I would also suggest taking some sandals or crocs to wear between getting your Ice Skates and returning back to your seated area - the floors can be quite wet and you don't want your socks getting wet!
There is also a small Cafeteria/ Tuckshop available for snacks and cold drinks.
NB! (TAKE JACKETS - IT'S COLD INSIDE!!)
REMEMBER TO MAKE MEMORIES...
Read moreI went to the ice rink during a Tuesday evening discount offer where both the entrance fee and skate hire costed R60. Which is budget-friendly for college-age students looking to have an active night out with friends. Many people of all ages and experiences come to this ice rink to enjoy the ice-skating experience. The skates that you are able to hire are very tough on the feet as they are hard with very little padding; so wearing extra socks is advised. One is able to bring your own ice skates. Inexperienced ice skaters will unfortunately have to tough it out on the rink as there are no skating aids. Lockers are avaliable to store your belongings if you choose to come alone or in a small group. It is not a necessity if you choose to come with a large group. The rink gets smoothed before the session to ensure safety, but that does increase the chance of falling if you are new. Though the rink is cold, it is better to layer up with light clothing than wear heavy garments. You may bring your own refreshments but drinks are avaliable at the indoor kiosk; though it is...
