We visited Stellenbosch wine bar and requested to be added to the waiting list for outdoor seating since all tables outside were occupied. We were told there was only one person ahead of us, so we decided to wait outside instead of sitting indoors, which felt stuffy. Later, the waiter informed us that the manager had decided we wouldnât be considered âcustomersâ unless we sat indoors. This meant that even though we were on the waiting list, anyone sitting inside could bypass us and take an outdoor table if they wanted to move.
When we raised this issue, the waiter admitted it was unfair but said it was the managerâs decision. The manager, Kaelin, came out and rudely insisted that the rule was âlogicalâ and that we simply didnât understand. She went further by dismissively saying, âIf you donât like it donât come here, welcome to South Africa,â displaying a shocking lack of professionalism and hospitality.
Itâs unfortunate that such a lovely place is ruined by such an unprofessional and disrespectful manager like her. Looking at their Google ratings, itâs no surprise they are lower than expected. With a manager like Kaelin even a 4.3 rating seems generous. Avoid this place if you value...
Read moreHad a very unpleasant experience at the Stellenbosch winebar. We are residents in Stellenbosch and we have been going to the winebar for the last 2 years almost every Friday evening. We have a standard Friday routine, we eat at one of the restaurants and then end the evening with a glass of wine at Stellenbosch winebar. My wife does not drink at all and she normally buys an ice cream from Kirstens (best ice cream in Stellies) and we sit enjoying the street vibes. Tonight we were not allowed to enter the winebar and they asked us to leave because ice cream is not allowed on the premises!!
They cant offer my wife anything in terms of drinks except water and coffee. They donât sell ice cream and they have never had an issue before. Sorry, you just lost a loyal customer!!.The Wine Glass up the street was very happy to accept us, even though they are a full restaurant that...
Read moreWe recently visited The Wine Bar, and I was left dumbfounded by the lack of hospitality and the rudeness of the staff, particularly the manager, Kaelin.
Upon arrival, we noticed the outdoor tables were fully booked, so we politely asked if we could wait for one to become available. Instead of a warm or accommodating response, we were informed that if we didnât sit inside first, we would lose our spot in line for an outdoor table. This felt unreasonable.
When we questioned the policy, the managerâs response was nothing short of dismissiveâshe told us if we didnât like it, we should find another place to dine. And, to top it off, her sarcastic remark, âWelcome to South Africa,â made me embarrassed to be South African.
We ultimately decided not to dine here, but itâs concerning to think that this is how customers are...
