One of the most zen area I visited whilst in Jeonju. There's not much to see there but you can really nice photos here when the grounds are littered with golden leaves from the gingko trees in the months of late autumn. Beautiful gingko trees that are a hundreds of years old. And close by are all picturesque spots.

This is a historical site with several huge ginkgo trees that have lasted hundreds of years. In autumn, the ginkgo leaves turn yellow and fall, covering the ground with a golden carpet, which is very beautiful. I am very happy to have the opportunity to come here and enjoy it during this golden season.

호남을 대표하는 국립 중고등 교육을 담당하며, 규모 또한, 한양의 성균관을 모델로 건축되어 99칸의 대규모를 자랑한다. 본래의 향교는 고려 1354년 경기전 자리에서 시작돼, 신흥고 자리를 거쳐 1603년 현 위치로 옮겨와 지금에 이르고 있다. 대부분의 지방 향교가 그렇지만, 전주 향교도 지역에서 가장 좋은 명당에 위치해 있고, 액내(額內)향교생 90명, 액외(額外)향교생 90명등 총 180명이 수학했으며, 과거시험과 성균관 입학등의 입신양명을 위해 유교적 소양을 쌓는 역할과 조선시대 최고존엄 공자를 비롯 성현들의 위패를 대성전에 놓고 제사를 담당했다. ■만화루(萬化樓)의 어원 공자지도 만물화생(孔子之道 萬物化生)ㅡ"공자의 가르침으로 만물이 교화된다."라는 뜻인데 조선시대 공자의 위상을 이 한마디가 대변하고 있다. ■전주 향교의 건물 배치 특이점은 공자의 위패를 모시는 대성전과 강학 공간인 명륜당의 위치가 다른 지역과는 뒤바뀐 형태를 보이는데, 지형적 특성인 평지와 전저후고의 경사지형 차이로 보인다. 평지 지형에서는 정 중앙을 상석으로 보고, 경사 지형에서는 가장 높은쪽을 상석으로 정하고 있어서, 평지 지형인 전주 향교는 대성전을 정 중앙으로 배치한 것이다. ■홍살문 신성시 되는 곳을 알리는 홍살문의 붉은 색칠은 부정한 기운을 물리치는 의미를 가지며, 화살은 한번 나아가면 되돌릴 수 없는 것으로 마음먹은 일에 멈추지 말고 정진하라는 뜻으로 화살 형상을 세워 장식했다. 비슷한 의미의 것으로 일본에는 도리이, 중국의 패루(패방)가 있는데 인도의 토라나를 시원으로 보고 있다.

I like this old joseon era school. Nice to stroll around, take in the serene atmosphere, and admire the old architecture and ancient trees. Makes a nice stop, after visiting the mural village and omokdae.

어느 계절에 가더라도 그 계절만의 특색을 간직한 아름다운 곳이다. 봄, 여름에는 푸릇푸릇, 울긋불긋 가을에는 수백년된 은행나무의 노란빛 겨울에는 황량하지만 고즈넉함을 보여주는 장소다. 성년식을 이곳에서 하기도 했지만 아무래도 향교자체가 지닌 멋은 한옥마을이 변해가더라도 변치않아서 더 좋다. 전주에서 진행되는 다양한 축제가 종종 이곳에서도 진행되어 어느 날은 음악 공연을, 어느 날은 음식 경연 대회를 즐길 수 있다. Comme chaque saison a ses charmes, cet endroit a sa beauté ne peut pas comparer avec des autres. Le village de Hanok a été changé depuis 2012 mais HyangGyo est reste comme avant. C'est pourquoi j'aime bien cet entroit. En automne vous pouvez regarder les arbres plus de 400ans changent ses couleurs de verts à jaunes. C'est trop beau!

향교는 학교를 의미하고, 향교가 있는 동네는 (향)교를 뜻하는 교동이라고 불렸다고 합니다. 그래서 전주향교는 교동에 위치해 있습니다. 전주향교 한 가운데에 위치한 '대성전'에서는 너무도 당연하지만 공자의 위패를 모시고 있고, 공자 초상화 아래에 적힌 대성지성문선왕(大成至聖文宣王)이 초상화의 주인공이 누구인지 잘 알려주고 있습니다. 대성전 뒷편에는 유학을 가르치던 명륜당과 기숙사로 사용되던 동재/서재 등이 있습니다. 또 향교 내부에는 곳곳에 오래된 은행나무가 있는데, 향교와 성균관 등 유학 교육기관에 은행나무를 심는 것은 공자가 은행나무 아래에서 제자들을 가르쳤다는 행단(杏檀)에서 비롯되었다고 합니다. 제가 방문했을 때는 전날 향교에서 행사가 있었는지, 아니면 당일에 행사가 있을 예정인지 모르겠지만 제기, 향로 등을 닦느라 분주한 모습이었습니다. 드라마 '궁', '성균관 스캔들', '구르미 그린 달빛' 등을 이곳에서 촬영했다고 합니다. 무료로 개방된 곳이고 전주한옥마을 중심부에서도 그리 멀지 않으니 한옥마을에 방문하신다면 전주향교에도 한 번쯤 들러서 구경하시는 것을 추천합니다.

Description
The Jeonju Hyanggyo is a hyanggyo originally established at the Gyeonggijeon Shrine site in Jeonju, Korea, sometime early in the 15th century, during the Joseon Dynasty. Gyeonggijeon Shrine was erected in 1410, so construction of the Jeonju Hyanggyo had to follow sometime later.
