Large impressive structure with a beautifully and ornately ceiling. If you visit, make sure to look up on the underside. As with so many places in Seoul, I’d recommend visiting at night to see the Gate lit up.

【城壁に囲まれたかつての姿を想像できる場所】東大門エリアのホテルに滞在しました。旦那さんが見つけてくれたピビンパが美味しい店へランチに向かう途中で見つけたのがこの景色です。つい先ほどまでは、ファッションの街や眠らない街と言われる賑やかな街並み、近未来的な東大門デザインプラザの建物を横に歩いてきただけなのに、この辺りはレトロな雰囲気の店や建物や坂が増え、少し離れた瞬間に面白いほど景色がかわりますね！まさか目の前に、これほど凄いものが普通に溶け込んでるんですよ！こんなに身近に韓国の歴史を感じるものに出会えるなんて、とてもびっくりしました。ポツンと姿を現す史跡『光熙門（クァンヒムン）』。これは昔ソウルが城郭で囲まれていた、まさにその一部です。 1396年に城壁が築かれた際に城郭の何ヶ所かに門が建てられたのが、四大門と四小門。いずれも外部と繋がる出入りする門で、そのうち四小門のひとつ。当時のように門を通れたり、装飾された屋根と美しい青龍と黄龍の天井画まで眺められました。この門は、"輝かしい光の門"という名称とは違い、当時は都城の中に墓をつくることができなかったので、亡くなった人は城の外へ出さなければならず、都城の外に死体を出すための「屍軀門(シクムン)」だったそうです。城壁沿いは散歩も楽しめるように整備されていて、今と昔が繋がるような不思議な空気の流れる場所でした。とてもよい体験ができて嬉しかったです。
